Adjustment process - reducing the length of the work positioning lanyard:
Take the slack end of the rope and pull through the length adjuster to reduce the
length of the lanyard.
Relieving the weight of the user from the lanyard can facilitate this operation. For
this, the user can grip the taut strand.
The new Miller HandZup® lanyard can be used as support on an inclined plane
where the length adjuster is connected at the ventral point (EN813) or the lateral
point (EN 358) and the karabiner of the work positioning lanyard is attached to an
anchorage located above the user. This product is unsuitable for work in suspen-
sion. See figure 8.
5-2 INSTALLATION PRINCIPLE
An EN 358-compliant belt or belt harness fitted with a back support must be used
for work positioning.
It is essential for safety that the anchoring device always be positioned and that
the work always be performed in a manner such as to minimize both the risk of
falling and the fall distance. It is essential that the device/anchoring point be
placed above the user's location.
Please install your work positioning lanyard by following these steps.
• Fasten the belt around the waist and adjust. See figure 9.
• Connect the length adjuster's karabiner to one of the two side D-rings on the
belt. The adjuster can be connected to either the left or right side D-ring. See
illustration of the D-ring connection and illustration on proper handling of the
different connecting devices (figure 10).
• Pass the lanyard behind the structure (post, trunk, etc.) and connect the
karabiner at the end of the rope to the other side D-ring. See illustration of the
D-ring connection and illustration on proper handling of the different connect-
ing devices (figure 10).
• Adjust the work positioning lanyard so you can work comfortably with both
hands free (see paragraph 5-1).
• Before commencing work at height, test the strength of the equipment.
• Check that the geometry of the structure permits the use of a work positioning
system (small diameters and sharp edges are prohibited). See figures 11.
• In some cases, it is recommended that a lanyard fitted with a protective sleeve
is used to minimise premature wear of the rope. See figures 6. If in any doubt,
contact the Honeywell Miller technical service department.
5-3 REPLACING THE MILLER HANDZUP® ROPE LANYARD
The Miller HandZup® rope lanyard can be replaced or changed as required.
In this case, the manufacturer permits users trained in the wearing of this PPE to
replace the rope of the work positioning lanyard when it is deemed necessary.
The slide locking screw is removable and repositionable with a special connector
that is available to order. The absence of the slide locking screw does not interfere
with the proper functioning or safety of the Miller HandZup® work positioning
lanyard which meets the requirements of the EN 358 standard with or without the
screw
The Miller HandZup® length adjuster is certified only with the Miller HandZup®
rope lanyards supplied by Honeywell Miller (see Appendix 1). Never use the Miller
HandZup® length adjuster with another type of rope.
Procedure for changing the rope lanyard:
Refer to the figures shown at the beginning of the manual for the sequence of
operations. See figure 12.
