fication or addition to the equipment without prior consent of the manufacturer,
inclusive of any repair, may only be performed in accordance with the manufac-
turer's procedures. Otherwise, we assume no liability in the event of the product
malfunctioning.
Before each use, a thorough visual examination must be conducted to ensure
the integrity of the lanyard and the integrity of any other equipment that may be
associated with it (harness-belt, anchorages, connecting devices, etc.) and also to
ensure that an appropriate rescue procedure is in place.
See figure 4.
Before each use, check:
• The absence of damage to the rope; cut, abrasion, wear, burning, etc. Where a
rope is supplied with a protective sheath, this must be moved to check the rope
along its entire length See figure5.
• The condition of the stitched terminations of the non-reinforced rope. The
integrity of the swaged terminations of the reinforced rope.
• Lack of distortion of thimbles. See figure 6.
• Lack of damage (tears, wear, burning, etc.) of the protective sheath.
• Lack of distortion or wear of connecting devices and their serviceability.
• Serviceability of the control device.
• Absence of damage (wear, oxidation, deformation, etc.) of the control device.
If there is any doubt, the PPE must be removed from service immediately.
5 - USE
When in use, protect your PPE against any risk related to the working environ-
ment: thermal, electrical, mechanical, chemical, sharp edges, etc.
When in use, regularly check the adjustment and/or fixing components.
The equipment must not be used outside its limits or for any other purpose than
the one it is intended for.
5-1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION AND OPERATING PRINCIPLE
See figure 7.
The Miller HandZup® work positioning lanyard is composed of:
• A length adjuster assembled from 2 aluminium plates, an aluminium slide, a
stainless steel cam and a plastic handle. An EN 362-compliant karabiner is
attached to the length adjuster.
• A 100% polyamide rope or a reinforced polyester rope with steel core, fitted to
an EN 362-compliant karabiner at one end and a stitched or sleeved stop at
the other.
• Some products from the Miller HandZup® range are supplied with a removable
protective sheath for the rope.
Locking operation:
Under tension the length adjuster locks onto the rope via the cam and, correctly
adjusted, allows the user to be supported in a «hands free» working position.
• In the working position, adjustment of the lanyard must not allow a free move-
ment greater than 0.50 metres.
• Ensure that the lanyard remains taut in use.
Adjustment process - increasing the length of the work positioning lanyard (re-
lease-lock):
Apply pressure to the handle of the length adjuster to release the rope and allow it
to be adjusted to a suitable length. Releasing the pressure on the handle causes
the length adjuster to lock onto the rope again provided the rope is taut.
