Basic principles of PROFINET
PROFINET IRT is the family name of an industrial Ethernet based digital net
work protocol used for real-time control (prioritized, scheduled, fix time latency)
and test automation of machinery and test stands.
A wide range of master controllers are available and linked to decentralized
units (DAQ with sensors and actuators like valves or drives). All of those mas
ter controllers and companies behind address different applications and some
times even different markets. The idea is finding an easy way to integrate
QuantumX into this powerful fieldbus in a way that system integrators or end
users are able to add some value coming along with HBMs QuantumX and
SomatXR data acquisition solution - flexible universal inputs, high accuracy,
distributable, etc.
In general the advantages of a fieldbus and also PROFINET are:
S Reduce cost in wiring and installation through decentralized devices and
thus short cable length
S Reducing long cable lengths transporting analog signals by acquiring and
digitalizing field data close to measurement spot and sensor and thus get
ting the benefit of reducing noise and getting higher signal quality
S High resolution and accuracy of measured value (24 bit)
S One single cable transferring many signals in real-time instead of hundred
analog lines to a central processor
S Higher dependability due to self-tests
S Highly reliable data transmission is less error prone
S Quickly extendible
S Less faults (wrong wiring)
S Easy diagnostics
S Flexible topologies (star, line, link from field to corporate management level
and cloud)
