Light intensity (fiber optics)

Direct Control of the UV-Detector 2500

Time programmed Chromatograms

Entering a Program

For detectors with fiber optical cables the light intensity does not depend
just on the lamp and the cell but also on the quality / condition of the fiber
optical cables, the quality of the connections, the length of the fiber
optical cables, the number of bends and the bending radius.
In this section it will be described, how the UV-Detector 2500 is to
configure and to operate.
Switch the instrument on keeping in mind the hints given in the section
Power supply, ON/OFF on page 10.
Prior to the first measurement wait for about 15 minutes for
warming up the instrument with the HPLC pump also switched on
(with flow). In case of especially sensitive measurements even
prolonging this warming up period may be necessary.
If the instrument after passing the start routine is displaying
Instrument is in
EXTERNAL mode!
it is controled by other devices. To control the Detector directly please
change the setting in the EXTERNAL CONTROL menu (see page 14) to
keyboard control.
The lamp starts automatically whenever the detector is switched on.
However at any time it can be switched off and on in the SIGNAL menu
(page 13).
Also in the SIGNAL menu the desired wavelength and the appropriate
time constant can be selected. In principle, now your UV-Detector 2500 is
ready to take simple chromatograms.
Programs are used to set and to change the wavelength during a run.
Activate as described on page 14 the PROGRAM menu. If no program is
saved you will get the following display:
PROGRAM
000.00-254 nm
go
000.00- * * * nm
In the first line of the program you will always find 000.00 (0 minutes, 0
seconds) as starting point and an current wavelength. The proceeding
line contains the same time and "***" for the wavelength. This ending line
is also used to create new lines for the program.
The cursor can be moved to the next or predecessing field using the ► or
◄ keys respectively. There it is possible to increase or decrease the
corresponding parameter settings by help of the ▲ or ▼ keys. Moving to
an other input field using the ► or ◄ keys respectively the entered
changes will be confirmed.
You can leave the input fields without confirming the changes by
pressing the AUTO-ZERO button. The cursor moves back to the
menu selector (rhombus field).
