6.3 Fabricating the socket
6.3.1 Shortening socket components
INFORMATION
The medial side rail and the medial and lateral socket shell (size M) must be shortened to adjust
the socket length to less than 300 mm.
The lateral side rail (size M) must be shortened to adjust the socket length to less than 320 mm.

INFORMATION
The parts to be modified have corresponding cutting marks and measurements on the
inside/reverse side. All parts always must be shortened to the same measurement. Parts must
always be shortened along the cutting marks provided.
Perform the following steps to shorten the socket components (medial side rail, lateral side rail,
medial socket shell, lateral socket shell):
1) Apply adhesive tape around the circumference of the socket shells at the level of the meas
ured residual limb length.
2) Transfer the cutting marks from the inside of the socket shells to the outside (onto the adhes
ive tape) (see fig. 10).
3) Extend the cutting marks along the entire circumference of the parts.
4) Use a hand saw, jigsaw or band saw to trim the socket components (see fig. 11).
INFORMATION: When using a jigsaw, select a low cutting speed to avoid melting the
plastic at the cut edge.
NOTICE! When shortening the side rails with a hand saw, the clamping fixture (e.g. a
vice) is not permitted to put strain on the thinnest section (row of bores) on the side
rails, otherwise the side rails may break.
5) Round the edges and corners with a suitable tool.
6) Smooth the cut edges with the silicone sanding cone (see fig. 12).
CAUTION
Damage to the cable ducts and Boa housing
Falling due to breakage of load-bearing components or malfunction of the product.
Re-shaping additional product components other than the parts identified in this section is
►
not permitted (in particular, note the area of the cable guides and Boa housing).
