USER INSTRUCTIONS
Please read these instructions in conjunction with the 3M 5000
Series Filter leaflet and the 3M 6000,7000 or 7500 Series Facepiece leaflet.
FOREWORD
Failure to follow all instructions on the use of this product and/or failure to
wear the respirator system during all times of exposure may adversely affect
the wearer's health, may lead to severe illness or permanent disability and may
render any warranty null and void.
If you have any doubts about the suitability of the product to your job
situation, it is recommended that you consult an occupational hygienist, or call
3M OH & ES Technical Services at your local 3M office.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
When combined with a respirator facepiece, respirator filters form a filtering
apparatus for respiratory protection.
Such apparatus is designed to remove potentially harmful gases, vapours and/or
particulates from the surrounding atmosphere.
The 3M 6000 Series Filters are designed to be used with:
3M 6000/7000/7500 Series Half Masks
3M 6000/7000 Series Fullface Masks
All these products are respirator facepieces with the 3M bayonet connection.
In addition, the 3M 5000 series particulate filters may be used in conjunction with
the 3M 6000 Series gas and vapour filters.
For permitted filter combinations see Fig. 1.
APPROVALS
These filters have been produced to comply with the requirements of the Australian
Standard AS/NZS 1716:2003 under an agreed production certification scheme
operated during manufacture in accordance with the SAI Global Standards Mark
programme.
LIMITATIONS OF USE
Use these filters strictly in accordance with all instructions:
• contained in this leaflet
• accompanying other components of the system.
Do not use for respiratory protection against unknown atmospheric contaminants or
when concentrations of contaminants are unknown or immediately dangerous to life
or health (IDLH) or in atmospheres containing less than 19.5% oxygen (3M
definition. Individual countries may apply their own limits on oxygen deficiency.
Please seek advice if in doubt).
Only use with the 3M 6000, 7000 or 7500 Series facepieces and within the usage
conditions given in the Technical Specification.
Note: The 6098/6099 must only be used with the 3M 6000 / 7000 Full face masks.
Only for use by trained, competent personnel.
Leave the contaminated area immediately if:
a) any part of the system becomes damaged
b) airflow into the facepiece decreases or stops
c) breathing becomes difficult or increased breathing resistance occurs
d) dizziness or other distress occurs

e) you taste or smell contaminants or an irritation occurs
Never modify or alter this product.
These products contain no components made from natural rubber latex.
Do not use for escape purposes.
National regulations may impose specific limitations on the use of filters
depending on the filter class and the facepiece used.
Use of any 3M facepiece/filter combination should be in accordance with applicable
safety & health standards, respiratory selection tables or in accordance with the
recommendations of an occupational hygienist.
EQUIPMENT MARKING
All 3M 6000 series filters are marked to AS/NZS 1716:2003.
All 3M 6000 series filters are marked to EN141:2000
Except:
3M 6051 (06911), 6055 (06915) which are marked to EN14387:2004
3M 6098 which is marked to EN371:1992
3M 6035 and 3M 6038 which are marked to EN143:2000.
R Re-usable.
End of shelf life (use-by) date is marked on the filter and packaging.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
1. Remove the filter from its outer packaging, check that the filter is appropriate for
the purpose – check colour code, letter code and class. Check that the use-by date
has not been exceeded.
Caution: care should be exercised when using previously unpacked filters as
they may have reduced service life or may have been used.
2. Filter/facepiece assembly instructions.
a) Align 6000 Series filter notch with facepiece mark and push together (fig 2).
b) Turn filter 1/4 turn clockwise to stop (fig 3).
To remove filter, turn 1/4 turn anticlockwise.
3. Discard and replace both filters at the same time. Ensure that both filters are of
the same type and class.
4. The effective life of a filter will vary depending on the level of contaminant,
work rate, exposure time etc. However, the end of service life of gas/vapour
filters is indicated by the wearer smelling or tasting traces of the contaminant
inside the facepiece. Particulate filters must be changed when breathing
resistance becomes unacceptable. Clean the filters with 3M 504 Wipes.
If disposal of parts is required this should be undertaken in accordance with local
health and safety, and environmental regulations.
STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION
The equipment should be stored in the packaging provided in dry, clean conditions
away from direct sunlight, sources of high temperature, petrol and solvent vapours.
Do not store outside the temperature range -10°C to +50°C or with humidity above
90%.
