1. General
Fitting and commissioning only by qualified staff!
1.1 Purpose
These operating instructions describe a series of control units for the
automatic and simple control of single- and multi-pump installations
with rated motor outputs up to 30 kW. The control units were
designed for medium-sized to large systems
– for the circulation of water in heating and air-conditioning technology
for district and block-type heat stations, in industrial and process
engineering,
– for the supply of water and the boosting of pressure in residential
high-rise buildings, hotels, hospitals, administrative and industrial
buildings.
The pumps operate on a low-noise and energy-saving basis in
conjunction with suitable sensor switches. The capacity of the pumps
is adapted to the constantly changing requirements in the
heating/water-supply system.

2. Safety
These operating instructions contain basic indications which are to be
followed during installation and operation. It is therefore essential that
these operating instructions are read and understood by the installer
and the competent operator prior to assembly and commissioning.
Not only are the general safety indications laid down under this main
point, "Safety", but also the special safety indications included under
the following main points, are to be followed.
2.1 Identification of indications in the operating instructions
Those safety indications contained in these operating instructions
which may endanger persons if not followed are specially marked with
the general hazard symbol
and when warning of electrical voltage with
the word
ATTENTION!
is added in the case of safety indications which could endanger the
installation and its operation if not followed.
2.2 Personnel qualifications
The personnel installing the pump must have the appropriate qualifica-
tions for this work.
2.3 Dangers if the safety indications are not followed
Failure to observe the safety indications can endanger persons and
the installation. Failure to abide by the safety indications will nullify your
right to any claims for compensation.
In particular, failure to observe these indications can, for example,
create the following dangers:
e.g.: CR 3,0 - 2 WA
[kW]
2
,
– failure of important functions in the installation,
– dangers to persons caused by electrical and mechanical effects.
2.4 Safety instructions for the operator
Local regulations for the prevention of accidents must be observed.
Dangers resulting from electrical energy are to be prevented. The VDE
(German association of Electrical Engineers) and national / local energy
supply company regulations must be observed.
2.5 Safety indications for inspection and assembly work
The operator must ensure that all inspection and assembly work is
carried out by authorised and qualified specialist staff who have
studied the operating instructions in detail.
In principle, work may only be carried out on the installation when it is
at rest.
2.6 Unauthorised modification and manufacture of spare parts
Changes to the pump / installation may only be made in agreement
with the manufacturer. The use of original spare parts and accessories
authorised by the manufacturer will ensure safety. The use of any other
parts may invalidate claims invoking the liability of the manufacturer for
any consequences.
2.7 Improper operating modes
The operational safety of the appliance is only guaranteed if it is used
as intended in accordance with section 1 of the operating instructions.
The operational tolerance limitations stated in the catalogue/data
sheet must not be exceeded under any circumstances.

moisture and mechanical damage. It may not be
exposed to temperatures outside the range -10 °C
to +50 °C.
4. Description of the control system
and accessories
4.1 Description of the control system (figures 1a, 1b)
The digitally driven Comfort-Control (CR) system allows the continuous
adaptation of the output of heating- (H), air-conditioning- (KL) and
pressure-boosting- (DEA) installations to the variable operating states
of these installations.
The controller operates on an ultra-modern frequency convertor (FC)
which continuously and optimally controls the speed of a standard
three-phase induction motor of the base-load pump. The capacity,
and therefore the power output of the heating installation or pressure-
boosting installation, changes with the speed.
The heating or pressure-boosting system delivers the controlled
variables via suitable sensor switches.
Different control modes are available depending on the type of sensor
switch.
Only the base-load pump (GL) has a variable speed. Depending on the
load requirement or timing mode, non-controlled peak-load pumps
(SL) are switched on or off automatically, whereby the base-load pump
is responsible in each case for fine adjustment to the setpoint. The
control systems are designed differently according to the number of
pumps and control demands.
Larger heating and air-conditioning installations are generally operated
with a double pump, and pressure-boosting installations with up to
6 single pumps.
