5. Check whether the nuts, bolts and
quick release levers are still tight regu-
larly between trips.

• Place the saddle (B) in the horizontal
position (4).
• If you apply a little acid-free vaseline
to the part of the saddle pin which is
in the frame, you will prevent the pin
from corroding and seizing up in the
long term.
• When you park your bicycle make
sure the saddle is not up against a
rough wall or it will become
damaged.
• If it rains the saddle surface may run
slightly. A separate saddle cover is easy
to carry with you and provides good
protection from the rain when the
bicycle is parked.
• Be careful when dismounting from
your bicycle! The back of your coat
can get caught behind the saddle and
cause an accident.

THE HANDLEBARS AND STEERING PIN

The handlebars also play an important
role in your seating comfort. The ad-
justment of the steering pin (higher or
lower) determines the position of your
back and the pressure of your hands on
the grips. The height of the handlebars
on most Batavus folding bicycles can be
4
adjusted by loosening the steering pin
clamp using the quick release lever.
ADJUSTING THE ERGO MATIC STEER-
ING PIN WITH EXPANDER
If your bicycle has a Batavus Ergo Matic
steering pin, even fi ner adjustment is
possible. This system enables you to
adjust the angle of inclination to your
own preference.

ERGO MATIC

1. The Ergo Matic steering pin (5)
works with a lever which can turn 135°.
You can simply unclick the lever so that
it is loose and turn it to the right.
2. Then you place the steering pin in
the desired position. Return the lever
and click it back into position.
3. Check whether the brake and gear
cables are not too tight now you have
altered the position of the handlebars.
The braking, gear shifting and steer-
ing behaviour of the bicycle may be
affected as a result.
4. Before you go cycling (again), check
the brakes and gear shifting.

• The steering pin must be tightened
fi rmly before the bicycle can be used.
• Check that there is no play in the
steering pin on a regular basis. See
your Batavus dealer
about this.
• At least 7 cm of the steering pin must
be inserted into the frame tube! This
point is usually indicated with a small
line and a warning.
• When applying corrections with the
steering pin, always check that when
you tighten things up again, the hand-
lebars are straight in relation to the
wheel.
• And if you are working on the stee-
ring pin anyway, apply a little acid-free
vaseline to the part which is in the
frame; this will prevent the parts from
corroding and seizing up in the long
term.

THE GRIPS

In order to be able to steer safely it
is important that the grips are fi rmly
fi xed. Regular checks prevent trouble.
