YOUR NEW BATAVUS

Your new Batavus folding bicycle is a
very special bicyle. One of the Batavus
folding bicycle models was recently
awarded the 'Aluminium Award
Environmental Prize' and was even
nominated for the 'Bicycle of the Year'
award as a result of its revolutionary
concept.
The most important feature of this
bicycle is, naturally, the fact that it is so
practical. And this was the whole point
of its sophisticated design, of course.
You can always fi nd a corner in your
car, boat or caravan for the Batavus
folding bicycle. You do not have to be a
magician to fold or unfold this bicycle,
either. This is not as diffi cult as it was
with earlier folding bicycles, thanks to
the 'quick release levers'. With the aid
of this service booklet, with its clear
drawings and practical instructions, you
will be able to get even more pleasure
from your bicycle. It is important that
you take the time to read it care-
fully and then to keep it within arm's
reach for use in the future. In the fi rst
instance, please approach your Batavus
dealer if you have any questions and/or
complaints.

GETTING ACQUAINTED

Your Batavus dealer has prepared your
bicycle for your use with a great deal
of care.
You will, of course, already be familiar
with the scenario for 'handing over':
useful tips for the user, adjustment of
the handlebars and saddle height, the
signing of the Certifi cate of Ownership
and perhaps an appointment for the
fi rst service.
The Batavus folding bicycle is a bicycle
with its own unique character, which
you have to become familiar with. This
is why we are giving you the following
safety tips:
1. First of all, take a test run close to
home. Try the brakes and gears out.
Cycle in a few small circles to get the
feel of the steering.
2. Never pull the saddle tube further
out of the frame than the maximum
safety height marks on the saddle tube
indicate.
3. Practice folding and unfolding the
bicycle. Read the next chapter for
instructions on how to do this.
4. Get into the habit of quickly chec-
king the quick release levers and that
the brakes are working before getting
on your bicycle; we also recommend
that you start off in fi rst gear.
5. Another point you should always
check before cycling away is whether
the two quick release levers (on the
frame and the handlebar hinge clamp)
have been secured with the extra
safety locks.
I M P O R T A N T
• Your folding bicycle should be used
for recreational purposes on paved
roads and paths by only one person.
Misuse, such as use on rough terrain,
jumping, doing stunts, letting more
than one person cycle on it, the use of
a child's seat on it, etc., can cause seri-
ous damage to the bicycle and injuries
to the cyclist.
Batavus is therefore not liable for
any damage which arises due to such
misuse and rejects all claims under the
guarantee in such circumstances.
• When you pick up your Batavus bicy-
cle all the components described in this
booklet will have been properly adjus-
ted by your Batavus dealer according to
your requirements.
• Some components (gears, brakes,
spokes, rims) must be adjusted again
after a time. It is best to have this car-
ried out by your Batavus dealer.
• This booklet is an important aid for
those who want, and are able, to make
these adjustments themselves. Having
said that, we advise that you always
consult your Batavus dealer before
doing so. He is not only the supplier of
your bicycle, but also a specialist who
