A GOOD LOCK

Your Batavus folding bicycle is too
valuable to park it just anyhow and
anywhere. In general you will therefore
not let it out of your sight en route.
If, however, you do have to park your
bicycle at some stage, it is sensible to
anchor it to a pole or fence with a cable
lock. The cable does have to go through
the frame and one of the two wheels
and not just through the front wheel.
Insure your bicycle against theft. Did
you know that there are insurance
companies which require a special
safety lock?
THE CERTIFICATE OF OWNERSHIP
What you should do if, despite these
measures, your bicycle is stolen:
1. Always report the theft to the police.
2. ALWAYS take your Certifi cate of
Ownership and all the relevant details
concerning your bicycle (which you
8-10 Nm
receive when you purchase it) with you.
20-25 Nm
3. If you have insured your bicycle you
25-30 Nm
must also inform your insurance com-
pany of the theft.

CYCLING SAFELY ON PUBLIC ROADS

You probably usually use your Batavus
bicycle on public roads. It goes with-
out saying that you will observe the
traffi c rules, for your own safety and
that of other road users. Furthermore,
you must ensure that the bicycle is
equipped such that it meets the statu-
tory minimum requirements. This is,
it is true, the case when you purchase
your Batavus bicycle, but it may no
longer be so after a time because of
wear on certain components such as
brakes or lighting. Have these things
checked regularly, preferably by your
Batavus dealer.
When cycling, keep your hands on the
grips and remain seated on the saddle
(except, of course, during mounting
and dismounting). Do not cycle onto
or off kerbs and try to avoid large ir-
regularities in the road. Severe jars and
extreme loads can damage important
components.

TRANSPORT BY CAR

It is easy to fi nd room in the car for
your bicycle once it is folded up. Re-
cently, the transport of bicycles by car
has concentrated increasingly on carri-
ers which are fairly simple to mount on
the towing hook of the car. Would you
like to know if your folding bicycle can
be carried on a carrier on the back of
the car? Have a word with your Batavus
dealer. He has the knowledge to help
you fi nd the most practical and, more
important, safest solution for your
particular bicycle(s).
T I P S
• If you make a trip with a bicycle on
your carrier, make sure that any acces-
sories which can vibrate loose (pump,
bicycle computer, etc.) are removed
from it in advance.
• A stop on the way is a good oppor-
tunity for a short inspection to check
whether the bicycle is still fi rmly fi xed
on the carrier.
• A quick check of whether the vital parts
of the bicycle are working properly be-
fore you mount up also promotes safety.
• Members of the ANWB (Dutch
equivalent of the AA) can pick up a
copy of the members' guide: 'Lekker
Fie tsen (Great cycling)' free of charge.
It discusses all the possibilities for bicy-
cle transport. It is a must!
