guide bar and the chain for a time. This does not
constitute a defect!
Place the saw on a suitable surface.

8. Operation

8.1 Starting the engine Fig.16
Do not start the saw until it has been completely
assembled and inspected!
• Move at least 10 feet (3 m) away from the place
where you fuelled the saw.
• Make sure you have a good footing, and place the
saw on the ground in such a way that the chain is
not touching anything.
• Engage the chain brake (3) (lock).
• Grasp the rear handle (6) firmly in one hand and
hold the saw firmly against the ground. Press with
one knee on the rear handle.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The choke switch (14) is cou-
pled to the throttle lever (5). It will revert to its origi-
nal position automatically once the throttle lever (5)
has been pressed. If the throttle lever (5) is pressed
before the engine starts, then the choke switch (14)
will have to be reset to the appropriate position.
Cold start Fig.17.1/17.2
• Prime the fuel pump (4) by pressing it several
times until you can see fuel in the pump.
• Move the I/STOP-switch (15) forward in the direc-
tion of the arrow. Fig.17.1.
• Turn the choke lever (5) up. This actuates the half-
throttle lock. Fig.18.2.
• Slowly pull out the starter cable (8) until you notice
resistance (the piston is positioned before the top
dead center).
Now pull the starter cable with a fast and
forceful movement until you hear the first ig-
nition.
CAUTION!: Do not pull out the starter cable more
than approx. 50 cm, and lead it back by hand. For
efficient starting, it is important to pull the starter ca-
ble quickly and powerfully.
• Turn the choke lever (14) down and pull the starter
cable again.
• As soon as the engine is running, grasp the rear
handle (6) (this actuates the grip safety (7) and tap
the throttle (5).
• This will release the half-throttle lock and the en-
gine will run in idle.
CAUTION!: The engine is to be run at idling speed
immediately after starting or damage may occur to
the chain brake.
• Now release the chain brake (3) (see section 7.6).
Warm starting
As for cold start, except before pulling the starter ca-
ble (8), turn the choke lever (14) briefly to the "Cold
start" position and then immediately back to "Warm
start" (this activates the half-throttle lock).
Important note: If the fuel tank has been complete-
ly emptied and the engine has stopped due to lack
of fuel prime the fuel pump (4) by pressing it several
times until you can see fuel in the pump.

8.2 Stopping the engine Fig.17.2
Move the I/STOP-switch (15) in position „0".
8.3 Checking the chain brake Fig.19
Do not work with the chain saw (3) without first
checking the chain brake!
• Start the engine as described (make sure you
have a good footing, and place the chain saw on
the ground in such a way that the guide bar is free
of contact).
• Grasp the tubular handle (6) firmly with one hand
and hold the grip (12) with the other.
• With the engine running at moderate speed, press
the hand guard (3) in the direction of the arrow
with the back of your hand until the chain brake
engages. The chain should stop immediately.
• Immediately release the throttle and release the
chain brake (3).
CAUTION!: If the chain does not stop immediately
in this test, do not under any circumstances proceed
with work. Contact a service center.

9. Operating instructions

m Important notices
Exclusively use the device for sawing wood. Do not
work on metal, plastic, masonry and building materi-
als which are not made of wood.
Turn off the motor if the saw comes in contact with
foreign objects. Check the saw and, if applicable, re-
pair it.
Protect the chain from dirt and sand. Even small
quantities of dirt can quickly make the chain blunt
and increase the risk of kickback.
Start by cutting up smaller logs to practise in order
to get a feel for the device, before attempting diffi-
cult tasks.
Activate the throttle at maximum, before starting
sawing.
Press the casing of the chainsaw against the log
when starting sawing.
Run the device at full throttle throughout the whole
sawing process.
Let the saw do the work. Only use slight downwards
pressure.
Release the throttle as soon as you have finished
your work so the motor runs idle. If you let the ma-
chine run at full throttle without load, there will be un-
necessary wear and tear.
So that you do not lose control of the device after
the chain exits the wood, you should not apply any
pressure to the saw towards the end of the cut.
Turn off the device before putting it down.
Check after starting the idle setting. The cutting
blade must be stationary during idling.
Felling trees - only with relevant training
m CAUTION
Watch out for broken or dead branches which may
fall down during sawing and which could cause se-
vere injuries. Do not saw close to buildings or power
lines if you do not know in which direction the felled
tree will fall. Do not work at night because you can
see less well, or during rain, snow and storms be-
cause the direction in which the tree will fall cannot
be anticipated.
