12.1 Operating with gas
Gas is a petroleum product, formally known as "liquid petroleum gas". It consists primarily of propane
and butane. The advantage of propane is that it remains gaseous at temperatures as low as -40 °C.
This is why propane is used in colder climates.
The gas bottle contains the gas in both liquid and gas form. When the bottle is refilled the gas converts
to liquid form by the pressure. When the valve on the gas bottle opens the fluid turns into gas again.
WARNING
Fire/explosion hazard
The risk involved in using gas is that any leaking gas can ignite and explode. Since gas is heavier
than air, leaking gas will collect at the lowest point in the area where the leak occurs. To make it
easier to detect gas leaks a substance with a distinctly strong smell has been added to the gas.
For your safety, install a gas alarm according to the gas alarm manufacturer's recommendations.
WARNING
Asphyxiation hazard
Gas contains no toxic substances, but breathing in concentrated gas may cause suffocation due to
lack of oxygen. Incomplete combustion of gas can produce carbon monoxide (CO) gas, which entails
an asphyxiation hazard.
For your safety, install and use a CO detector.
When you select gas operation in the Control Panel, the gas burner and the pump that circulates the
glycol mixture starts automatically each time the thermostat requires more heat.
WARNING
Fire/explosion hazard
The exhaust gas temperature from the gas burner can be up to 200 °C. Do not place combustible
materials and liquids close to the flue.
WARNING
Burn hazard
The exhaust temperatures from the gas burner can be up to 200 °C. Keep clear of the wall flue when
using gas operation.
The gas burner continues to run and the pump continues to circulate the liquid until the thermostat
reaches the desired temperature. If the gas burner for some reason goes out a sensor is activated and
the heating system will automatically try to restart (after approx. 10 seconds).
12.2 Operating with electricity
All Alde Compact 3020 heating systems are equipped with two 230 V electrical heating cartridges
(one 1 kW and one 2 kW) totalling 3 kW. When electrical operation is chosen in the control panel, the
electrical heating cartridges are used to heat the heating system. The electrical heating cartridges and
the circulation pump is controlled in a similar way as in gas operation.
NOTICE
Check that the correct electrical service is available before using electrical operation. Campsite pow-
er supply varies between 6 A, 10 A and 16 A. Hence, before plugging in, check that the power source
is sufficiently fused to support the power consumption needed for electrical operation.
1 kW - 6 A fuse. 2 kW - 10 A fuse. 3 kW - 10 A fuse.
