• Air pockets might be formed in the system, a sign that air pockets has been formed is that the pipes
only warm up a metre or so from the boiler, even though the circulation pump is running. For more
information about bleeding the heating system see section 8.4 Bleeding the heating system.
3.4 External factors that can affect the heating system
• Cleaning fluids for the water system shall be used with caution as they can cause corrosion on the
stainless parts of the heating system. Assure that the cleaning fluid you are using works in stainless
systems. Rinse the system thoroughly before using the heating system again.
• Be aware of hard water. Hard water is water that has a high levels of minerals, chlorine, lime and
salt. If the boiler is used in an area with hard water, install a water filter. Hard water might lead to a
build-up of lime-scale that can reduce the functionality of the system and cause rust.
• When washing the vehicle, do not spray water directly towards the flue. This can cause poor opera-
tion and soot formation.
3.5 Convection
In order to make the best use of hydronic heating, it is important that air can pass freely through air
slots under bunks and behind backrests/cushions and wall cabinets. If the vehicle is equipped with
e.g. a fitted carpet, ensure that the carpet does not obstruct the air supply to the convectors. Equally
important is that curtains, pillows and blankets do not obstruct the circulation of air behind backrests
and wall cabinets. See figure 1.
