8 Initial start-up
When using the machine for the first time, make sure that:
• the machine has been installed correctly and the corresponding
operating mode is activated (see Chapter 10.4.5, „Tank Mode"),
• the mains plug is disconnected from the power supply,
• the drip tray has been inserted correctly (see Chapter 7.5.1, „Installing
the blind filter and drip tray"),
• the steam and hot water tilt valves are closed (see Chapter 5.2.3,
„Operating levers"), and
• the brew lever is in the starting position (see Chapter 5.2.3, „Operating
levers").

8.1.1 Connecting and switching on the machine
1. Remove the water tank (1, Fig. 8) and clean it thoroughly (see Chapter
11.5, „Cleaning the water tank").
2. Fill the water tank with water and insert it back into the machine (see
Chapter 9.5, „Filling the water tank with water").
