Recharge the Vehicle A/C System

Charge
WARNING: To prevent personal injury while
working with refrigerant, read and follow
the instructions and warnings in this manu-
al, and wear protective equipment such as
goggles and gloves.
Automatic leak tests are performed during the Charge
process. To avoid false failures, the temperatures of
the vehicle system and the recovery ACS 661 should be
within ± 5 degrees C.
1. Connect both service hoses to the vehicle's ser-
vice ports. Open both high-side and low-side panel
valves.
2. Press charge.

3. Use the arrow keys and the numeric keypad to enter
the desired charge amount.
4. Press F1 to start the charge process.
 After the ACS 661 completes a pre-charge leak
test, you will be prompted to select a charge
path.

High-side charge
Verify the high-side (red) panel valve and both
service hose couplings are open. Close the low-side
(blue) panel valve.

Low-side charge
Verify the low-side (blue) panel valve and both
service hose couplings are open. Close the high-side
(red) panel valve.

Charge both sides
Verify both panel valves and service hose couplings
are open.

Only a high-side or a both-side charge can be com-
pleted if also injecting oil.

The charging process differs from vehicle to vehi-
cle. Charge function for vehicles equipped with a
single-service fitting should be carried out manual-
ly. Refer to the vehicle service manual for specific
instructions.

Before performing any oil or UV dye injection make
sure a proper quantity is available into the respec-
tive bottle.
5. Press F1 to continue the charging process.
 When the charge cycle gets close to the desired
weight value, the ACS 661 slows down. It will
charge, settle, charge again, settle, etc.

Moving or bumping the ACS 661 at this point may
result in an inaccurate charge.

If the low-side (blue) or high-side (red) coupling
valve is left open and connected during the hose
clearing process, the system will pull refrigerant
back out of the vehicle.
6. When prompted, close any open service couplings.
However, any open panel valves must remain open.
Remove service hoses from the A/C system, and
install the hoses on ACS 661's flush ports. Press F1
to clear the hoses.
7. When the Charge complete
includes a summary of charge results.

Print out the summary by pressing F1.
Press F2 to return to the Select Action screen.
8. Close the panel valves. The vehicle A/C system is
now ready for use.
