Description:
The Introcan Safety® 3 Closed IV Catheter is de-
signed to:
• Minimize inadvertent needlestick injuries with a
passive safety needle-shielding feature.
• Improve catheter stability with an integrated
stabilization platform designed to minimize
movement within the vessel.
• Control the flow of blood which aids in the pre-
vention of blood exposure.
The catheter may be used for any patient popula-
tion with consideration given to adequacy of vas-
cular anatomy and appropriateness for the solu-
tion being infused and duration of therapy.

Indications
• The Introcan Safety® 3 Closed Intravascular
Catheter is inserted into a patient's vascular
system for short term use (less than 30 days) to
sample blood, monitor blood pressure, or admin-
ister fluids and blood intravascularly.
• The 18-22 gauge catheters may be used with
power injectors at a maximum pressure of 300
psi and a maximum flow rate. Use luer lock con-

Contraindications
Introcan Safety® 3 Closed IV Catheter should not
be used in patients with known hypersensitivity to
any of the materials employed.

Guidelines
• Observe Standard Precautions on ALL patients.
Aseptic technique, proper skin preparation, and
continued protection of the insertion site are es-
sential.
• Use of only ISO Luer-slip and Luer-lock connec-
tors ensures proper functioning.
• This device is intended for single use only and is
provided sterile and non-pyrogenic.
• This device is sterile unless package has been
opened or damaged.
• Components do not contain natural rubber la-
tex, PVC, or DEHP.
Risks & Warnings
• Re-use of single-use devices creates a potential
risk of patient or user. It may lead to contamina-
tion and/or impairment of functional capability.
Contamination and/or limited functionality of
the device may lead to injury, illness or death of
the patient.
• In the unlikely event that the safety mechanism
does not engage, keep the needlepoint away
from the body and fingers at all times and im-
mediately dispose into an approved sharps con-
tainer.
• Report needlesticks immediately and follow es-
tablished protocols.
• In the case of an unsuccessful IV start, remove the
needle first to activate safety mechanism, then
remove catheter from patient and discard both.
• Do not bend the catheter/needle during inser-
