b) Charge a rechargeable battery („CHARGE")
Set the charging current to correspond to the rechargeable battery capacity and should normally
be set to 1C (see chapter 9). High-quality rechargeable batteries can tolerate a charging current
up to 2C. Refer to the information provided by the rechargeable battery manufacturer for more.
A charging current of 1C means that the charging current corresponds to the capacity
value of the rechargeable battery at hand. For example, with a 3000 mAh NiMH rechar-
geable battery, at 1C you should set a charging current of 3 A.
A current of 0.5 means that the charging current corresponds to half of the capacity
value of the rechargeable battery at hand. For example, with a 3000 mAh NiMH rechar-
geable battery, at 0.5C you should set a charging current of 1.5 A.
As a rule: the smaller the rechargeable battery (the individual cell), the lower the maxi-
mum charging current.
For example, conventional NiMH mignon/AA cells with a capacity of 2000 mAh do not
allow a charging current of 1C (equal to a charging current of 2 A). When charging such
cells (contained in receiver batteries, for instance) in fast charge mode, never set more
than 0.5C.
Proceed as follows to charge a NiMH/NiCd rechargeable battery:
• As described in chapter 14 a), set the rechargeable
battery type (NiMH or NiCd) and select the charging
program „CHARGE".
The rechargeable battery type appears at the upper left of the display, the charging program
to its right. The value at the bottom right shows the currently set charging current.
Move the control pad upward „8" or downward „2" to select a different charging
program.
Move the control pad to the left „4" to return to the main menu.
• Move the control pad to the right „6" to change the value for the charging current. The
charging current starts flashing.
• Move the control pad upward „8" or downward „2" to set the charging current.
The maximum possible charging current depends on the rechargeable battery type,
capacity and cell count. Please review the information provided by the rechargeable
battery manufacturer and the chapter „Technical Data" at the end of this user manual as
well as chapter 9.
