2.2 Function
The product is a myoelectrically controlled Axon-Bus gripping component in the modular
Ottobock Axon-Bus prosthetic system.
The product consists of two hooks ("hook tips"). One fixed and one movable hook perform the
gripping movements. Objects can be grasped by opening and closing the hook tips. A passive
flexion wrist unit is permanently fixed to the product. This wrist unit offers a natural pattern of
movement in both the "flexible mode" and the "rigid mode".
Power is supplied to the product by the battery which comes integrated in the socket.
Control settings for the product can only be carried out when all Axon-Bus components are con
nected. For further information, see the instructions for use provided with the Axon-Bus compon
ents.
Depending on the Axon-Bus prosthesis components currently used, specific standard pro
grammes are available. With the 560X500 AxonSoft adjustment software, these standard pro
grammes can be adapted/modified for the specific needs of each respective patient.
The product is equipped with the "neutral position" function. If there is no active muscle signal
within a defined period of time, the product moves to the neutral position. The two hook tips are
closed. The process is stopped if the hook tips encounter resistance or an obstacle. The period
of time can be configured in the adjustment software.

2.3 Combination possibilities

This product is to be combined exclusively with components in the Axon-Bus prosthetic system.
Components of the Ottobock MyoBock system or components from other manufacturers cannot
be used with this product.
3 Application
3.1 Indications for use
The 8E600=* AxonHook is to be used exclusively for upper limb exoprosthetic fittings.
3.2 Use/Field of Application
The AxonHook 8E600* is suitable for unilateral or bilateral amputations starting with the transradi
al/transhumeral amputation level or, in case of dysmelia, for forearm or upper arm fittings.
3.3 Environmental conditions
The Axon-Bus prosthetic system was developed for everyday use and must not be used for unusu
al activities. These unusual activities include, for example, sports with excessive strain and/or
shocks to the wrist unit (pushups, downhill, mountain biking) or extreme sports (free climbing,
paragliding, etc.). Furthermore, the Axon-Bus prosthetic system should not be used for the opera
tion of motor vehicles, heavy equipment (e.g. construction machines), industrial machines or
motor-driven equipment.
The prosthetic system is intended exclusively for use on one user. Use of the prosthetic system
by another person is not approved by the manufacturer.
Permissible ambient conditions are described in the technical data (see Page 25).

3.4 Service Life

The product is a wear part, which means it is subject to natural wear and tear. The service life
diminishes or increases depending on the individual level of use. Only when the instructions for
use are observed it is possible to achieve the maximal service life, in dependence of the level of
use.
This product has been tested by the manufacturer with 500,000 gripping cycles according to
internal testing procedures. Depending on the patient's activity level, this corresponds to a ser
vice life of 5 years.
