c) Mounting the elevator rudder

• Before the empennage can be glued, it is recommended
to insert the vertical stabiliser (1) in the elevator rudder
(2).
You can now hold the entire unit against the end of the
fuselage "dry" in order to check whether the individual
parts fit.
Important!
The groove (3) which allows the elevator rudder to
fold in downwards must be at the bottom.
• Transfer the fuselage edge to the bottom of the elevator
rudder when doing so.
• With a sharp balsa knife the foil is subsequently removed
from the fuselage coating (4) and from the bottom of
the elevator rudder (5). Leave a thin edge there which
sticks out into the adhesive joint.
Practical tip:
A piece of expandable thread (or thin wire) has proven
very practical for aligning the elevator rudder.
The thread is fitted with the help of a pin in accordance
with the sketch on the front edge of the wing. The wing
is subsequently fixed to the fuselage with both rubber
rings and aligned right in the centre.
• Oil the elevator rudder in the area of the adhesive joint
with 2-component epoxy glue and position it in the centre
on the fuselage.
• With the measuring thread (6), which is held alternately
on the left and right of the elevator rudder, you can
exactly measure and adjust the distance to the two
elevator rudder ends (A).
When you have a look at the model from a distance
from behind, the distance of the empennage ends to
the bottom side of the wing (B) must also be the same.
