dent. If your B500 power wheelchair is to be used as
a seating transportation in a motor vehicle the anchor
brackets offered by Otto Bock and appro priate
restraint systems for the wheelchair must be used. For
more information, please refer to our brochure "Using
your Wheelchair/ Mobility Base with Seating Shell or
Buggy/Stroller for Transportation in Motor Vehicles",
order no. 646D158.
r When mounting a Recaro® seat, ensure that the seat
adapter is securely attached to the retainer bushings
and that the anterior locking bolts have snapped into
place up to the key ring!
r When mounting a special control, the user is obliged
to have a specialist dealer give him or her detailed
instructions on how to use it.
r The mounting position of the seat must not be changed.
Otherwise there is the risk of tipping.
2.5 Safety requirements for Operation
r The user is obliged to make sure that the power wheel-
chair and its safety functions are in safe and proper
condition every time before using it. The power wheel-
chair may only be used if all safety functions, such as
the automatic brakes, are functional. Inoperable
brakes can lead to severe accidents with fatal injuries.

r The power wheelchair must be inspected for functional
reliability and driving safety at least once a year by an
authorised specialist.
r Modified parameter settings in the configuration can
lead to changes in driving characteristics. In particu-
lar, changes to the speed, acceleration, braking or
joystick settings can lead to unexpected and therefore
uncontrollable operating performance with a risk of
accidents. Always test the driving characteristics of
the power wheelchair after configuration / program-
ming is complete.
r Programming must only be completed by authorised
personnel. Neither Otto Bock nor the control unit
manufacturer are liable for damages (especially in
combination with special controls) caused by program-
ming that was not properly / professionally adapted
to the abilities of the wheelchair user.
r To ensure safe driving operation, the anti-tipper must
have been mounted correctly and must be in proper
condition.
r If any faults, defects or other dangers that can lead
to personal injury are detected, the power wheelchair
must be put out of operation immediately.
r Prior to using the power wheelchair, all the necessary
mechanical adaptations (e. g. mounting special con-
trols) and software settings (e. g. programming the
