12.5 Configuring the password
Only numbers 0 to 9 are allowed for the password.
1. Select PASS set and tap [OK]
 The 4-digit LCD will then show '0000', with the first
zero on the left flashing.
2. Tap [UP] / [DOWN] to increment or decrement this digit,
then tap [OK].
 The second digit will flash.
3. Repeat the process for the other digits and tap [OK]
✓ The value is set and the instrument returns to the menu.
12.6 Switching the Display (LCD) On/Off
This feature allows turning the LCD off in normal operation,
effectively turning the Polytron 5000 into a non-display
instrument.
The functionality of the instrument remains active,
independently of the LCD state.
In case of an alarm when the LCD display is off, the red LED
will flash and the LCD display will automatically switch on and
show the current gas concentration.
In case of a fault, the yellow LED and the LCD display will
switch on and the display will toggle between 'Err' and a
specific number.
To set the display (LCD) on/off
1. Enter the menu.
► If the LCD is off, Tap [down].
2. Select LCD
 The display toggles between the current value and the
menu item.
3. Tap [OK]
 The value flashes (data entry mode)
4. Set the display status.
► Select [UP] to activate the display (ON)
► Select [DOWN] to deactivate the display (OFF)
5. Confirm with [OK] and exit the menu.
12.7 Setting 2-wire/3-wire configuration
This point is only valid for Polytron 5100 EC.
Polytron 5100 EC can be operated in a 2-wire and 3-wire
configuration.
This function changes the operation mode disabling options
which are too power consuming.
In 2-wire mode, the instrument does not offer the options:
– current source
– back-lit display
– remote sensor (unless operated at 24V or higher)
– relays
– LEDs

CAUTION
Transmitter malfunction
► It must be ensured that the setting of this function matches
the wiring for power and signal.
► After changing the configuration and returning to normal
operation, the power to the instrument must be cycled.
To set the wire configuration
1. Select Set 2-3
 The display toggles between the current value and the
menu item.
2. Tap [OK]
 The value flashes (data entry mode)
3. Set the wire configuration.
► Select [UP] for 2-wire configuration (2-on)
► Select [DOWN] for 3-wire configuration (3-on)
4. Confirm with [OK] and exit the menu.
5. Cycle power to the instrument and ensure the setting of
this function matches the wiring for power and signal.

Interface settings
13.1 4-20mA interface
The current output of the instrument during normal operation
is between 4 and 20 mA and is proportional to the detected
gas concentration.
Polytron 5xx0 uses different current values to indicate various
modes of operation. The factory default settings are user
adjustable for application specific requirements. This follows
the NAMUR recommendation NE43.
13.1.1 Full scale deflection
Polytron 5100 EC and Polytron 57x0 IR only
Some sensors offer a min/max range for the full scale
deflection.
Example: Required range 0 to 500 ppm CO (e.g. part number
6809605 default 300 ppm, range min/max = 50/1000
ppm).Select full scale deflection as 500 ppm. The analog
output will be linear between 4 mA = 0 ppm and 20 mA = 500
ppm.
13.1.2 Setting maintenance signal
Configuring the maintenance signal.
The maintenance signal is transmitted on the analog output
anytime the menu is accessed.
Steady (Stdy)
a steady 3.4 mA output signal
Dynamic (3-5)
an oscillating 3 to 5 mA signal with a fre-
quency of 1 Hz
1. Select CAL - set
 The display toggles between the current value and the
menu item.
