Installation of sensors
3. Align the boss of the instrument with the boss of the
docking station and push the hinge back in.
 The instrument is now supported and can swivel to
give access to the wiring.
4. Install the electrical wiring (the instructions for use of the
docking station (9033242).).
5. Securely screw the transmitter onto the docking station
using 4 screws with a tightening torque of 8 Nm (70 LB
IN.). The 4 screws are part of the delivery (M6, 1/4" bolts
with hex socket caps).
5.2
Electrical installation with docking
station
1. Refer to Instructions for Use 9033242.

Installation of sensors
6.1
Installing EC sensor
See figure C on the fold-out page.
This point is only valid for Polytron 5100 EC
1. Loosen set-screw (2), 2mm Allen screw.
2. Unscrew bayonet ring (3) and remove blank.
3. Insert sensor (4) into the opening. The Dräger logo on the
sensor must point to the mark on the sensing head
housing (5).
4. Lock sensor with bayonet ring.
5. Tighten set-screw (2).
Mandatory for Zone 22 installations.
6.2
Installation of remote sensing heads
Depending on the explosion protection type, different sensing
heads are used. For installation of the different sensing
heads, refer to the corresponding instructions for use for the
respective sensing head.

Commissioning of the instrument
1. Switch power supply on.
► Polytron 5100 EC
 The display shows remaining time in minutes until
the sensor is ready for measurement (t 016 e. g.).
► All other Polytron 5000 instruments
 The display shows Info 301 until the sensor is
ready for measurement.
 The fault relay signals a fault.
 The instrument will go through a start-up sequence
(LCD / LED test, software version, and initialization)
and start the warm-up period.
The maintenance signal on the 4-20mA interface is
transmitted until the sensor is warmed-up.
Maximum warm-up time of a new sensor: see the
Instructions for Use for the sensor.
 After the warm-up period, the instrument goes into
normal operation. The display shows the current gas
concentration the unit of measurement. The green
LED is lit.
2. If necessary, calibrate the instrument.
Polytron 5200 CAT-specific
Sensor change during warm-up
Changing the sensor selection during warm-up causes Err -
109. Cycling the power initializes the instrument to accept the
change. All configurations must be checked, and the
instrument must be calibrated.
Obey the safety statements mentioned in 1 Safety-related
information!

Operation
8.1
Display, analog interface and relay
status
8.1.1 Measuring mode
The following display example shows Polytron 5100 EC.
Display example
Description
In normal operation, the display
shows the measured gas concentra-
tion and the unit of measurement.
8.1.2 Special states
If the instrument is in a special state, a proper measurement
or alarming can no longer be guaranteed.
This is the case:
– When the gas concentration exceeds the measuring
range.
– When a fault occurs.
– During calibrations.
– During bump tests.
