d) Connecting the drive battery to the speed controller
Place the vehicle on a suitable base (or a start box) so that the wheels can move freely. This ensures that
you will not lose control of the vehicle if the wheels move suddenly (e.g. if the throttle trim is not set cor-
rectly).
Do not reach into the drive. Do not hold the wheelIs.
Switch off the speed controller first (move the switch to the "OFF"
position). The on/off switch can be found at the top of the chas-
sis, next to the steering servo. Then, if you have not already done
so, start up the transmitter:
• "a) Inserting batteries/rechargeable batteries into the remote
control" on page 45.
• " b) Configuring the remote control" on page 45.
Connect the drive battery to the speed controller. Ensure that the battery is inserted in the correct polarity (red cable
= positive/+, black cable = negative/-). Do not use force when connecting the battery plug to the speed controller.
Important!
The vehicle and speed controller are suitable for:
- 2-cell LiPo drive battery (rated voltage 7.4 V)
- 3-cell LiPo drive battery (rated voltage 11.1 V)
- 6-7 cell NiMH drive battery (rated voltage 7.2 V or 8.4 V)
Make sure that the cable cannot get into the vehicle's drive or into the steering mechanism. If necessary, use cable
ties to fasten the cables.
e) Switching on the speed controller
Turn on the speed controller by moving the slide switch to the "ON" position, as shown in the figure in "d) Connecting
the drive battery to the speed controller" on page 46. Then wait a few seconds (leave the throttle/brake lever on
the transmitter in the neutral position, do not move it). The speed controller measures the battery voltage; depending
upon this, the engine beeps.
The acoustic signals are generated by the brushless engine.
• 2 beeps: 2-cell LiPo drive battery or 6-cell NiMH drive battery detected
• 3 beeps: 3-cell LiPo drive battery
• 3 beeps: 7-cell NiMH drive battery detected
Important!
The undervoltage detection feature works by detecting the battery voltage when the speed controller is
switched on. (The undervoltage detection feature switches off the engine when the LiPo battery is empty to
prevent the battery from overdischarging.)
For this reason, ensure that you connect a fully charged drive battery to the speed controller.
Check that the throttle and steering functions are working correctly.
Refer to "10. Programming the speed controller" on page 49 for instructions on how to program the speed controller.
