• Ensure that the patient can carry out the procedure for engaging the
Swing Only mode and the Manual Lock mode, please refer to the
following section: Dynamic Alignment - U-Lever/Mode Selector
Switch.
Swing Control
The variable hydraulic resistance to flexion and extension during swing
phase can be adjusted by rotating the cap atop the control cylinder, which
is accessible on the posterior side of the device.
Flexion resistance (Fig. 2)
To adjust the flexion resistance, rotate the 11-point "•HYDRAULIK•" scale
on top of the cap relative to the Indicator Mark (2A). Aligning the
Indicator Mark with the following letters or dots on the scale sets the
flexion resistance to:
• Minimum (2B), at the letter "H".
• Medium (2C), at the letter "A".
• Maximum (2D), at the letter "K".
Note down the selected flexion resistance setting.
Extension resistance (Fig. 3)
To engage the extension resistance adjustment, rotate the cap all the way
in one direction until the Indicator Mark moves relative to the numeric
scale on the side of the cylinder. Aligning the Indicator Mark with the
following values on the numbered scale sets the extension resistance to:
• Minimum (3A), at 1.
• Medium (3B), at 5 - 6.
• Maximum (3C), at 10.
Caution: After setting the extension resistance, remember to re-set the
flexion resistance to the previously selected setting.
Stance phase stability (Fig. 4)
The device's stance control system is designed to provide hydraulic
yielding resistance to knee flexion when the prosthesis is loaded. This
assists the user in descending stairs foot over foot and in stumble
recovery. The stance resistance or yielding rate can be adjusted from the
posterior side of the device using the Stance Control Adjustment Screw
(4A) near the U-Lever (4B) on the piston rod. The Stance Control
Adjustment Screw only adjusts 1/3 of a rotation:
• Counterclockwise rotation from the 12 o'clock position to the 8 o'clock
position creates maximum yield rate (minimum stance resistance) (4C).
• Clockwise rotation from the 8 o'clock position to the 12 o'clock position
creates minimum yield rate (maximum stance resistance) (4D).
Caution: Do not exceed the 1/3 rotation.
U-Lever/Mode Selector Switch (Fig. 5: A)
The device is designed to provide the user with a Manual Lock and
a Swing Only mode of operation. These functions are engaged and
disengaged through the U-Lever or mode selection switch located near
the top of the piston rod on the device's posterior side.
U-Lever in the upward position (5B):
• Manual Lock or Swing Only mode is engaged.
U-Lever in the downward position (5C):
• Manual Lock or Swing Only mode is disengaged.
