STRUCTURE AND MODE OF OPERATION

5.1

Measuring body

The measuring element is a steel loaded member to which strain gauges (SGs) are ap­
plied. The SGs are arranged so that two are extended and the other two shortened when
a force acts on the transducer.
5.2

Strain gauge covering

To protect the SG, the S9M force transducers are welded at an appropriate place with a
thin plate (Fig. 5.1). This procedure offers the SG a high level of protection against
environmental influences. In order to retain the protective effect, this plate must not be
damaged in any way.
