Fault behavior of the control

The Marex OS II remote control is provided with an extensive self-diagnosis, which permanently monitors the control's
condition. Should an error occur on the system, the control will recognize this and signalize the fault to the steersman.
In connection with the error's signaling basically three fault modes are to be distinguished, which affect the control
function of the system in a different way depending on the type of error.
Warning
In case of a warning the alarm lamp (LED) at the control stations is
activated. There is no buzzer signal activated because the control
function is not directly affected. For this reason the propulsion
system can be controlled from this control station without
restrictions. There is no message reported to a connected alarm
system.
A typical error of the category "warning" is a fault at a passive
control station.
Via the error display of or MPC the cause of the warning can be
detected.
Alarm-Light
In case of an "alarm-light" the system's control is impaired. For this
reason an acoustic alarm is issued by the buzzer or by the
connected alarm system. The alarm lamp (LED) is active. If the
buzzer at the control station is activated, this can be switched off
(acknowledged) by means of a button at the control head or
operating module.
In case of an "alarm-light" the propulsion can still be controlled in a
limited way (e. g. if the control of the gear is defective, the engine
speed can still be modified).
Via the error display of the MPC the cause of the "alarm-light" can
be determined.
Alarm
In case of an alarm the current control state of the propulsion
system can no longer be influenced. The system keeps the last
command. In order to indicate this grave control failure, the buzzer
of the system or of the connected alarm system sounds. The alarm
lamp (LED) is activated. If the buzzer at the control station is
activated, it can be deactivated (acknowledged) by means of a
button at the control head or at the operating module.
As no further control possibility exists, the LED "Command" of the
defective propulsion side extinguishes.
A typical error of the category "alarm" is an error at the active
control station.
Via the error display of the MPC the cause of the alarm can be
determined.
Due to the extensive self-diagnosis of the remote control system more than 200 different error causes and
locations can be diagnosed. The errors, their effects on the remote control system and thus on the
controllability of the ship propulsion as well as the errors' removal are described in detail in the service
manual.
