When installing and commissioning the Marex OS II system, strictly observe the following
instructions. Non-observance of these instructions will void any and all legal and warranty
claims against AVENTICS GmbH.
Exclusively install, start and maintain the system and its components in compliance with
the instructions in the Marex OS II documentation. The Marex OS II documentation
includes three manuals: "Devices and adjustments" manual, "Operating manual" and
"Service manual".
Exclusively connect those components to the Marex OS II system that have been
approved by AVENTICS GmbH. All components describes in the manuals of the Marex
OS II system are deemed to be authorized for use.
Do not subject the components described in this manual to structural modifications or
misuse.
The Marex OS II system has been designed for controlling diesel engines.
For use with petrol or gas engines the system components must be installed outside the
hazardous area. Strictly observe the regulations for hazardous areas.
Observe the IP protection class of the devices.
Exclusively install and use all devices in accordance with the corresponding IP protection
class.
Devices with protection class IP20 may be used in cabinets or consoles, only.
Devices with protection class IP54 may be used in the engine room.
Only use devices with protection class IP67 in external areas.
Operation of the system is only permissible with a separate engine emergency stop
system on all control stations.
It is recommended to install a supplementary, independent engine emergency control
system in addition to the Marex OS II remote control system.
Twin engine systems with one control station should be equipped with single control
heads of types 240/241 or with twin control heads of type 230. For twin control heads of
type 240/241, 244, 250, 251 errors can affect both sides and, thus, both propulsion
systems, due to their construction and design.
Installation works may only be performed when the system is not under power. Take the
appropriate measures to prevent inadvertent switch-on of the supply voltage.
Observe the information provided in the special chapter "Installing and wiring devices" in
the "Devices and Adjustments" manual.
Only modify the control parameters when the propulsion system is not running. The vessel
must not move. It must be anchored or moored.
Any fine tuning during a sea trial must be coordinated with the shipmaster. The safety of
the crew and other traffic participants must not be endangered. Take the appropriate
measures to make sure that erroneous entries in the course of the parameterization
process do not result in a loss of control of the vessel.
The responsible shipmaster is obliged to check the remote control system prior to each
journey. Additionally, the entire ship control system must be checked on a regular basis in
compliance with the seaman's duty. This overall check includes testing the control of the
propulsion system, checking the control stations, checking the exterior control stations for
leakage, performing a general functional test and examining the entire system for integrity.
