Special functions

The Marex OS II remote control provides a series of special functions, as for example:
 rpm only*
 synchronization*
 trolling*
 shaft brake
 engine functions (start, stop, engine stall protection, overload control, measurement and indication of fuel)
 rpm increase
 rpm reduction
 emergency maneuver
 safety stop
 interfaces to external control stations, as for example positioning systems
 control station releases
In this operation manual only the most frequently used special functions are described (marked with *). All other functions
are presented in separate, ship-specific descriptions.
6.1

RPM only

The special function "rpm only" allows an
adjustment of the engine speed by means of the
control head lever without engaging the gear in
ahead or astern.
To activate the function the button COMMAND at
the active control station is to be kept pushed
and afterwards the lever of the control head is to
be moved to ahead or astern. As soon as the
lever has been moved away from the neutral
detent, the button COMMAND can be released,
the function "rpm only" has been activated. The
engine speed is adjusted according to the lever
position, the gear remains in neutral position.
By flashing of the lamp COMMAND the state
"rpm only" is indicated at the active control
station. If a lighting of the control head scale is
provided (control head type 230), this will be
flashing as well.
The function "rpm only" is left by returning the
control head lever to neutral position.
In case of multiple-engine systems those systems whose levers are moved away from neutral detent when activating the
button COMMAND, will be set to the mode "rpm only". All remaining systems whose levers are kept in neutral position
remain in normal mode. Each system can therefore be set to the mode "rpm only" independently of the other systems.
While with a lever positioned in ahead the engine usually cannot be started, this is allowed in the mode "rpm only". In this
way the engine can be started with an increased injected fuel quantity, which facilitates the start procedure, particularly
with a cold engine.
The engine speed is not limited by the control in the mode "rpm only". The steersman is responsible that the engine is
not damaged in this mode, in which it is run without load, because of too high engine speeds.
