5.2.1 Using the swinging anti-tipper
a) Negotiating thresholds / dropped kerbs
To negotiate thresholds and dropped kerbs, the arms of the anti-tipper should hang freely to-
wards the ground (Fig. 18).
When ascending an obstacle, the arms of the anti-tipper hit the ground and prevent the wheel-
chair from tipping over to the rear (Fig. 19).
When descending an obstacle, the front arm of the anti-tipper must protrude beyond the edge
of the obstacle to enable the anti-tipper to swing out of the way.
When continuing to move the wheelchair (forwards/backwards), the anti-tipper rotates around
its own axis (Fig. 20, item A). Once the obstacle has been overcome, the anti-tipper swings
back into the start position.
b) Negotiating steps / kerbs
WARNING
Risk of falling. Please note that an attendant is required to assist with negotiating steps and undropped
kerbs.
Before tilting the wheelchair in order to get over undropped kerbs or steps, the attendant must
disengage the anti-tipper by rotating it to an upwards position (Fig. 21). This prevents the anti-
tipper from getting damaged.
To do so, loosen the thumb screw (Fig. 22, item A) from the swinging zone (Fig. 22, item B) and
rotate the anti-tipper approximately 180 degrees. Then screw the thumb screw into the central
locking zone (Fig. 22, item C).
Now the wheelchair can be moved over the obstacle forwards/backwards.
INFORMATION
Please note that it is necessary to swing the anti-tipper down after clearing the obstacle to reactivate it!
To do so, loosen the thumb screw on the anti-tipper (Fig. 22, item A) and rotate the anti-tipper approxi-
mately 180°. Then firmly retighten the thumb screw into the swinging zone (Fig. 22, item B).
