f) Speed Controller
The speed controller in the boat recognises the natural position at the transmitter on its own within a specified area. If
the natural position is not recognised, the trimming at the transmitter must be corrected.
The speed controller has am installed BEC (integrated voltage supply, 5 V/DC, 1 A) for the receiver system. The power
supply to the receiver system would in this case be provided right from the driving battery. The power resilience is,
however, only sufficient for one servo. Therefore, the installed BEC was deactivated (the red wire in the servo plug is
broken). The receiver system is supplied with power by a separate receiver battery.
Operation with LiPo batteries is not recommended, since the speed controller will only switch off the motor at
a battery voltage of <5 V. This would mean a deep discharge for a LiPo-battery; the LiPo-battery is permanently
damaged. Use only am NiMH- or NiCd-driving battery as driving battery in this case!
The speed controller has a permanent current of 25 A (short-term 50 A) in forward direction, and a permanent current
of 10 A (short-term 20 A) in reverse direction. You can recognise forward direction if you move the throttle lever at the
transmitter seamlessly without break from „full throttle forward" to „full throttle backward".
When everything is set and wired correctly, the motor must not turn backwards now! For this, you need to switch to
neutral position first at the transmitter, and wait for 1-2 seconds in this position before you can drive backwards. In
contrast, you can switch directly to forwards driving from a reverse run.
The LED in the speed controller is lit when driving forward or back. If the LED flashes but the motor does not turn, the
receiver battery is empty or not activated.
If the motor does not turn but the steering servo works, either the driving battery is empty or disconnected, or the on/
off switch of the speed controller is in the position „OFF".
