2. CHOOSING AND WEARING AN HELMET

The following steps must be followed when choosing a helmet.
Throughout this manual the numbers (in brackets) are used to refer to the components in Figures 1 and 2 pages 3 - 4.
2.1 Sizing
Motorcycle helmets are sized based on the circumference of the
head: this is measured using a measuring tape at the head's widest
point just above the eyebrows and the ears as shown here in Figure
3. Select the size of helmet that is closest to your circumference. If
your circumference falls in the middle between two sizes, then try
the smaller helmet first.
The size table below may be used as a guide to sizing, however, all
helmets should always be tried on to establish correct fitting.

An improperly sized or fitted helmet, even if the Chinstrap (8) has been correctly fastened,
will provide reduced or no protection in an accident or impact. If you have difficulty with
sizing or fit, consult Alpinestars or your local Alpinestars' Dealer.
2.2 Fitting the helmet
Follow these steps to ensure a proper fit.
a) Take the Chinstrap (8) of the helmet in each hand and pull the ends apart to expand the helmet slightly.
b) Hold the helmet over your head, keeping the tension in the Chinstrap (8) ends, and lightly guide the helmet down
until the Crown Pad (9a) comes into contact with the top of your head.
c) Fasten the Chinstrap (8) securely by inserting the end of the Chinstrap (8) inside the double D ring system following
the order set out in Figure 4, page 5, and then pull the Chinstrap (8) tight against your throat. Fasten the Chinstrap (8)
as tight as possible, without causing yourself any pain, there should be no slack or space between your chin and the
strap. Secure the loose end of the Chinstrap (8) and snap the button until it audibly clicks into place.
To unfasten the Chinstrap (8), unsnap the button and pull the red tab downwards, Figure 5, page 5.
