1-4. In-track Configuration
The tape track is divided into subcode area, ATF area, and PCM
area are as shown in Fig. 1-5. After-recording using only the
subcode area is also possible. A track is composed of 196 blocks.
The detailed arrangementis shown in Table 1-4. The music signal
is recorded in the PCM area together with the data (PCM-ID)
necessary to reproduce it. The recorded material (program) top
search signal, material (program) number and time are recorded
in the subcode area. The subcode area has a capacity about 4.6
times larger than the capacity of CD. It will afford various
applications. The signal to ensure correct trace of track with head
is recorded in the ATF area. The PCM area and the subcode area
have 288 bit capacity. Figure 1-5 shows the in-block configuration
of these areas.

DATA+PARITY
Each block of the PCM area arranges an 8-bit sync signal, an
8-bit PCM-ID (information bit such as sampling frequency and
emphasis), an 8-bit block address where the address number of
PCM area (256 bits) is recorded, an 8-bit parity which is added
to PCM-ID and block address, and a 256-bit area where the
encoded music signal (PCM data) and error correction parity are
recorded. The PCM datais interleaved and terminates within one
frame (2 tracks, A and B).
Note: ID is an abbreviation for identification.
