11. EXPLANATION OF OPERATION OF THE
MECHANISM

The mechanism is shown in Fig. 11-1 and Fig. 11-2.
11-2. Explanation of Mechanism Mode
The mechanism has the 7 modes, namely @ EJECT,
@ UNLOADING, @ LOADING COMPLETION, @ FF,
© STOP, © PLAY, ® REVIEW.
The major operations of each mode are as follows:
(1) EJECT;
The cassette holder lock is released. if the holder lock is
released, it returns at once to the unloading position.
(2) UNLOADING;
The tape is unloaded. The mechanism is waiting for the
cassette tape to be set.
(3) LOADING COMPLETION;
The position where the cassette tape has been taken out from
the cassette and wound around the drum (usually, the
mechanism does not stop in this mode).
(4) FF;
FF/REW operation is performed in this mode. The reel deck
drive is set to FF state, and the reel deck brake is released.
(5) STOP;
The tape travel is stopped. The brake is depressed to the reel
deck.

(6) PLAY;
The tape is sent at constant speed. The pinch roller is
depressed, the capstan rotates, and constant back tension is
given to the tape.
(7) REVIEW;
The tape is sent back with constant speed. The pinch roller is
depressed to the capstan, the capstan rotates inversely, and
the back tension brake is depressed to the take-up reel deck.
The changing of mechanism mode is transmitted to the specific
lever through the cam by the drive motor. In this case the
position in specific mode is detected by the detection switch.
The mode change state and modes of detection switch are
shown below.
EJECT—>UNLOADING-—(LOADING COMPLETION)
—FF>STOP#sPLAY->PEVIEW
The direction of the arrow (->) indicates the direction of unwinding
the tape, and the drive motor runs counterclockwise (CCW).
