Tips for maintenance and care
Regular maintenance ensures that the children's bike is always safe to use.
The items regarding initial operation should be reviewed at regular intervals.
For safety reasons, the first inspection of the bicycle should take place after a relatively brief period of initial "familiarisation"
riding. After a while the screws, nut and fastening components may "settle", meaning that they give way. The brake cable
expands due to stress and vibration. That is why we recommend regularly checking these parts to determine that they are
securely fitted, and if necessary to tighten them (the first time, however, after one week's use).
A bicycle chain is subject to mechanical stress and has a limited service life. Specific care can significantly extend the life span of
the chain. Special chain grease, fine oil or chain spray from your specialist can be used to care for the chain and ensure sufficient
lubrication. Care is of particular importance after rides in the rain or increased stress from sand or grime. A heavily soiled chain can be
placed in a petroleum bath and then brushed off. To do this you will have to remove the chain with the help of a chain rivet remover.
After cleaning, the chain must be dried and oiled. In the event that in spite of cleaned and oiled parts, smooth running of the chain
can no longer be achieved, we recommend replacing the worn out chain with a new one. When replacing the chain, please note the
length and the correct chain type (normal chain 1/2" x 1/8).
In accordance with toy safety directives, the chain must be covered by the chain case, circulating from the outside
laterally.
The chain case must always be attached when the children's bicycle is in use. You can tighten the chain even when the chain
protector is installed (see point 12).
The pedal cranks are attached to the bottom bracket bearing with nuts and/or screws. These nuts and/or screws are tightened in a
force-locking manner ex works. As the cranks on the bottom bracket bearing may "settle' after a while, the tight fit of the pedal cranks
must be checked from time to time. If a pedal crank loosens, it must immediately be screwed down tightly. To check the mounting of
the pedal crank, the plastic cover cap must be removed on both sides (see point 5).
After a certain amount of time it is necessary to re-adjust the front wheel brake, as both the cable pulls and the brake pads wear out.
To retain the optimal braking effect, the brake pads must always be replaced as a pair. For replacement pads it is imperative that you
pay attention to rim-specific identifying marking (for aluminium or steel rims).
The braking surface must be kept grease-free.
Due to the interaction of the brake and the rim, not only the brake lining, but also the rim is subject to functional wear and tear.
Therefore, the rim should be checked at regular intervals for its condition with regard to wear and tear. The appearance of fine fissures
or the deformation of the rim shoulder in the case of increased air pressure indicates a state of advanced wear.
Some of the components may only be serviced by a specialist.
From time to time you should have the steering bearings, wheel hubs, bottom bracket bearing and other movable parts
inspected by a specialist for settings and adjustments, wear and lubrication.
Good maintenance and care can substantially extend the service life of the bicycle. Cleanliness is a rust protector.
All lacquered and chrome parts can be cleaned and protected with commercially available car care products. Protect the children's
bike from road salt and avoid extended storage in damp spaces. To care for all parts including the mudguards, handlebar,
especially rims and transition points of the spoke nipples to the rims, please use acid-free grease (e.g. Vaseline) or spray oils.
