12. Condition and tension of the chain
The tension of the chain should be adjusted so that the chain
has 1-2 cm clearance at the centre between the front chain ring
and the rear sprocket.
If clearance is greater, the chain must be re-tensioned. To do
so, begin by removing the plastic caps from the rear hub axle
nuts. Then release both hub axle nuts and pull back the rear
wheel until the chain has the appropriate tension. If necessary,
release the mounting clip. After centrally aligning the rear wheel,
carefully tighten all the loosened screws.
Check that the brake lever is correctly attached.
It should be secured to the frame fork with the mounting clip. If this is not the case, it could adversely affect the functioning of
the back pedal brake.
13. That all screws and nuts are securely tightened
All screws and nuts must be checked to ascertain that they are firmly secured.
When tightening or re-tightening the connection parts, observe the tightening torques of the technical specifications
(see last page).
If screws or bolts are tightened too much, the material may over expand and break.
Replace broken connection parts immediately.
For safety reasons, the following screw connections must be checked regularly:
Handlebars & stem
Stem & fork shaft
Saddle & saddle post
Saddle post & seat tube
Pedals & cranks
Cranks & inner bearings
Bottom bracket bearings & bottom bracket shell
Brake lever & brake pad
Brake cable (front) & clamp screw
Wheel mounting (hub axle nut)
14. Adjustment and functioning of the brakes
All bicycles (including children's bicycles) require at least two brakes. This children's bike is equipped with a standard rim brake (or
a cantilever brake) and a maintenance-free back pedal brake hub ex works.
The front brake consists of two brake levers that are located to the right and left of the rim. Via the hand brake lever that is attached
to the handlebar, the arms are pulled together by means of a cable pull (Bowden cable) and pressed against the rim. The brake lever
must always be adjusted so that your child can grab it without having to let go of the handlebar. The screw on the brake lever can be
used to modify the distance to the handle. However, please note that turning the screw also changes the distance of the brake pad to
the rim. Check the proper setting/adjustment of the brake. The brake pads must be positioned so that when the brake is applied
they press against the entire braking surface. When the brake is released, the distance between the brake pad and the rim should
be about 2-3 mm.
