If the back pedal brake is used over longer periods of time, the brake body or pad can become very hot;
it should not be touched for at least 30 minutes after a ride.
It is important for the child to properly understand the effects of the bicycle's brakes.
In the event of improper application of the brakes, the child may lose control of the bike and suffer serious injuries. To avoid
having the bicycle slide away, the front wheel brake should be carefully applied in tight curves, on sandy and greasy streets,
wet asphalt and black ice. Brakes must always be applied with sensitivity. Locked wheels have little braking impact and can
result in skidding and falling.
Every bike responds differently when braking.
Therefore you should practise braking with your children. That will help them to familiarise themselves with the braking effect.
Practise using the various brakes.
Check the effectiveness of the brakes before each ride!
Check that the cable pull connection is firmly in place by pulling on the brake lever. The braking capacity can be ascertained by
pushing the bicycle at the same time.
15. Functioning of the bell
This children's bicycle has been equipped with a bell in standard production.
Located on the handlebar, it should be easy for children's hands to reach and produce a bright chime when used.
16. If training wheels are used, ensure that they are securely fastened
The training wheels included should only be used if necessary. To do so, place the openings of the training wheel brackets on the
thread on the bike frame. The screws are secured by individual flat washers and the spring washer, as shown in the illustration. The
screws must be firmly tightened.
If at all necessary, the training wheels should only be used for a short learning period. Children do not learn to ride their bikes when
they have training wheels. Children do not learn how to steer, start, stop or ride in curves properly when they have training wheels.
Extended use of the training wheels will result in the child becoming accustomed to improper "cornering". They shift their weight
outwards instead of inwards.
Moreover, the use of training wheels can be dangerous.
When they sag over curb edges, in potholes or other uneven surfaces, the bike may tip over. Due to the risk of tipping, you
must make sure that they ride around curves more slowly than with a bike that has no training wheels. Even when riding with
training wheels the child must be able to reach the ground with his/her feet. Please check the appropriate saddle position.
