Welds cleaning equipment
2.2. Field of Use
The machine is designed and produced to perform, on stainless steel parts, the following operations:
• Cleaning oxides and burns following welding and cutting operations;
• Polishing welds;
• Electrochemical etching (option).
Attention : Do not use the machine on steels that are particularly sensitive to electrolyte solutions
(for example steel AISI 430) on which these may result in the formation of white rings. If in
doubt, perform a pre-test.
Lincoln Electric Europe shall be relieved from any liability in case of misuse of the machine, for
example:
• misuse by untrained personnel;
• use contrary to applicable operating standards;
• improper install;
• faults from the use of wrong power;
• faults from lack of maintenance;
• unauthorized modification;

The carbon fibers (bristles) should extend 15 mm.
When the first fibers become worn, cut the PTFE
spiral by 15 mm.
4. Tips Installation
The tips are made with special materials, resistant to acids and high temperatures.
• TIG Bond tip (18a/18b/18c/18d)
To install, put the pad (18) on the support (17) (Fig. G3).
• Bond tip (18e)
Place the pad (18e) on the graphite support (17) so that it is well covered (Fig. G3).
5. Use of electrolytic solutions
Attention: make sure to use the proper electrolytic solution for the desired treatment:
• Neutral solution (11a): for scouring acid-free welds
• Brill solution (11b): for scouring and polishing welds
1. Unscrew the cap from the tube (11) and remove the protective film.
2. Place the tube (11) on the torch (12) and secure it by screwing the ring on it (Fig. G6).

6. Cleaning / polishing welds
6.1. Mode selection
10/30 V AC/DC
Turn the button (5) to the desired function:
AC etching welds with buffer.
DC polishing welds with buffer.
etching welds with the brush.
The brush is ideal for hard to reach areas with the buffers, such as interior
angles.
Combinations to follow:
Scouring
Support (17) + TIG Bond tip (18) + Neutral/Brill solution (11 a/b)
Brush (19) + Neutral/Brill solution (11 a/b)
Polishing
Support (17) + TIG Bond tip (18) + Brill solution (11b)
Brush (19) + Brill solution (11b)
6.2. Current adjustment
• Refinishing and polishing with inserts and pads (17/18)
On OPTICLEAN II one can adjust the current according to different needs; by increasing the
electric current increases the working speed of the machine.
If we have to work with a high current, to avoid damaging the work-piece and avoid damaging
the pads, it is advisable to first perform tests on samples.
• Refinishing and polishing welds with the brush (19)
When the knob (5) is on the "brush" position, (19) the electric current is already set and thus
impossible to be changed by operator. it is advisable that all stripping welds operations be
performed in this position.
For polishing with the brush (19) position the knob (5) on the DC position, and successively
adjust the current according to the operator's needs.
6.3. Power supply
Before powering up, make sure:
• the power supply is grounded;
• that the power supply line is of adequate for the power load of the machine;
• to have a surge protection device, in case of overloads and short-circuits;
• to have an automatic switch-off device connected to the common ground, to prevent the risk
of indirect contact;
• that electric cables, plugs and sockets of the machine, are in good condition.
Electrical connection procedure.
1. Connect one end of the torch power cable (10) to the connector on the torch (12) and the other
end of the power cable to the socket (4) located on the front of the machine. (Fig. G7).
2. Insert the plug of the ground cable (9) into the yellow socket (3).
3. Connect the ground cable clamp (9) to the work-piece.
4. Plug in power cable (1) into the socket (consistent with existing safety and regulatory
standards - take into account the voltage of the machine, which is indicated in the technical
data affixed to the front of the unit).
5. Turn on the machine using the main switch (2).
6.4. Stripping / Polishing process
1. Press the button (15) on the torch (12) to pump, the liquid in the tube (11) on the pad / brush
(18/19). After each press wait 2/3 seconds before pressing it again to allow the proper
G
operation of the pumping system.
On first use, repeat 4-5 times this operation.
