NOTE!
The aim of the system is use classification to detect only those objects that are relevant
to the driver. This detection and classification is based on characteristics. The system
is trained in various situations using suitable objects having the relevant characteris-
tics. The results are transferred to other situations that are not directly covered by the
training data.
Thanks to this intelligent classification approach, the detection behavior for object
classes is not limited to specific situations, shapes or sizes. In cases of ambiguity, the
decision parameters and the prioritization may lead to faulty alarms because the pri-
mary aim is to guarantee a reliable detection. Faulty alarms are therefore accepted in
borderline situations to exclude non-detection.
False alarms can occur for the following reasons:

Object class 3
Object class 4
Object class 5
Unfavorable conditions that adversely affect the image
quality
Incorrect mounting or parameterization of the system
System malfunction
Software malfunction
Description
This class comprises all objects larger than
40 cm x 80 cm. This is ideal for maintaining
a dependable and at the same time efficient
collision warning.
This class comprises all objects with dimen-
sions of about 40 cm x 160 cm in size. Small-
er and larger objects are ignored. Object class
2 can be selected for narrow passages.
This class comprises all objects larger than
50 cm x 70 cm. It is especially suitable when
a highly sensitive detection is desired, for
example for objects of this size that are turned
in about their vertical axis.
This class comprises all objects larger than
30 cm x 120 cm. It is especially suitable when
a highly sensitive detection is desired, for
example for objects of this size that are turned
in about their vertical axis.
This class comprises all objects larger than
40 cm x 80 cm. It is especially suitable when
a highly sensitive detection is desired, for
example for objects of this size that are turned
in about their vertical axis.
