FUNCTION DESCRIPTION DOSING PUMP
The purpose of the pump is to constantly proportionally dose JUL mineral solution within the framework
of the Drinking Water Ordinance.
The quantity of water flowing through is measured with a flow sensor. The output signal of the flow sensor
controls the pump drive speed.
The precisely operating plunger pump transports the dissolved minerals out of the mineral solution con-
tainer via a dosing tube to the injection point in the water meter. Here the dosing solution is injected
against the water pressure into the water pipe and the minerals mix completely with the water flowing
through.
If the mineral solution container is empty, a warning message appears in the display.
After an empty message, the dosing pump switches off to prevent dry-running. It can only restart its oper-
ation, if a new mineral solution container is inserted and detected by the control system or if the operator
tops up the mineral solution container using JUL-mineral solution made using JUL-mineral tables (see
chapter 6.7 "EXCHANGE OF THE MINERAL SOLUTION CONTAINER").
The pump head via which the mineral solution is sucked up, is located at the bottom end of the suction lance
above the bottom of the mineral solution container. It does not require bleeding.

FUNCTION DESCRIPTION JUL MINERAL SOLUTION
The orthophosphates and silicates used for corrosion protection (in the solutions JUL-W and JUL-SW)
form a difficult to dissolve compound, so that the pipe material is shielded against the corrosive effects of
the water. To form a closed protective layer, it is recommended that the dosing pump is operated at the
maximum setting for the first two fillings of the mineral solution container. Then the setting can be reduced
to normal or even minimum. If thereafter evidence of corrosion appears again, e.g. brown water, the dosing
must be increased again.
The mineral solution JUL-C used for corrosion protection is only for copper pipes. It is an alkaline solution
and increases the pH value of the water by a few tenths of a unit. Generally this increase suffices to prevent
corrosion, because the chemical processes involved in corrosion are, amongst other things, pH-depend-
ent.
The polyphosphates contained in the JUL-H mineral solution used for hardness stabilisation surround the
calcium and magnesium ions responsible for the hardness, preventing them from forming any more calci-
um/magnesium carbonate (limescale) crystals. The hardness stabilisation using these polyphosphates has
been tested in accordance with DVGW working sheet W 512 at a temperature of 80 °C. The result was a
certified reduction of limescale formation of more than 99 %.
The consumption of washing and cleaning agents is much lower following hardness stabilisation with
polyphosphates because, for example, the detergent dosing for a washing machine need only be based on
a hardness range of 1.
