Disassembling the refilling system
 Remove the refilling system from the nebulizer chamber and
withdraw the transfer set from the lid.
 Prise the rubber ring (A) out of the groove through the mount-
ing hole using a blunt object and remove it.
 Remove the float (B) and the valve body (C) from the float
chamber.
NOTE
There must be no forces acting on the float chamber, float, or
connecting pipe.
The transfer set is a disposable product. After use, it must be dis-
posed of according to the applicable hospital, hygiene and waste
disposal regulations.
Cleaning refilling system
Examine the interior of the float chamber, the valve seat and the
valve body for any deposits or solid matter. Remove them com-
pletely using tweezers, a cotton swab or lint-free cloth. Rinse all
parts carefully.
After using saline solutions clean the float valve as well.
Assembling the refilling system after cleaning
Insert the valve body with the conical tip into the valve seat, fit the
float, insert the rubber ring and make sure it is fitted in the groove
properly.
Manual cleaning and disinfection
Manual disinfection should preferrably be carried out with disinfec-
tants based on aldehydes or quaternary ammonia compounds.
Observe the applicable country-specific listings for disinfectants.
The list of the German Association for Applied Hygiene (Verbund
für Angewandte Hygiene VAH) applies in German-speaking coun-
tries.
The composition of the disinfectant is the responsibility of the
manufacturer and can change over time.
Strictly observe the manufacturer's information on the disinfectant.
Carrying out manual cleaning and disinfection
 Remove soilings with a wet wipe.
WARNING
Penetrating liquid may cause malfunction of or damage to
the device, which may endanger the patient. Only wipe-dis-
infect items and make sure no liquids penetrate into the
device.

2
Wipe-disinfecting
Wipe-disinfect surfaces of Tropic plus and the accessories using,
e.g., Buraton 10 F (Schülke & Mayr).
C
 Follow the manufacturer's instructions.
 Do not allow liquids to penetrate into the device.
B
A
Disinfection with damp heat
Do not disinfect Tropic plus or filter with damp heat.
Only the assembled quartz oscillator and the nebulizer chamber
can be disinfected with damp heat:
 When disinfecting with damp heat (93 °C (200 °F)/10 minutes)
CAUTION
The rubber seal of the quartz oscillator must fit closely against
the nebulizer chamber. If the screw connection is not tight
enough, moisture can penetrate into the quartz oscillator. If the
screw connection is too tight, stress cracks may occur.
Sterilization
Do not sterilize Tropic plus and filter.
Only the assembled transducer and nebulizer chamber, the lid and
the autoclavable hoses can be sterilised in hot steam:
 Sterilize at 134 °C in hot steam sterilizer.
CAUTION
The rubber seal of the quartz oscillator must fit closely against
the nebulizer chamber. If the screw connection is not tight
enough, moisture can penetrate into the quartz oscillator. If the
screw connection is too tight, stress cracks may occur.
NOTE
Even accessories designed to be reused have a limited service
life. Handling and reprocessing can increase wear and markedly
shorten service life (e.g., disinfectant residues can attack the
material more intensely during autoclaving). If signs of wear
become visible, such as cracks, deformation, discoloration,
peeling, etc., affected accessories must be replaced.
Maintenance
This chapter describes the maintenance measures required to
maintain the proper functioning of the medical device. Mainte-
nance measures must be performed by the personnel responsi-
ble.
WARNING
Risk of infection
Users and service personnel can become infected with
pathogenic germs.
Disinfect and clean device or device parts before any main-
tenance measures and also before returning the medical
device for repair.
Carry out surface disinfection.
After contact time, remove disinfectant residues.
in a washer-disinfector, use only a detergent.
