5.6.3 Gait Parameter Adjustment

CAUTION
Trial walking without safety precautions
Falling due to lack of patient experience or incorrect product adjustment
For safety reasons, always have the patient take the first steps between parallel bars.
NOTICE
Use of incorrect tools
Product damage due to use of incorrect tools
Only use the tools recommended in the instructions.
INFORMATION
Before adjusting the gait parameters of the prosthetic hip joint, also observe the instructions for
use of the chosen prosthetic knee joint.
Proceed as follows to make the adjustments (see fig. 22):
Tools required:
>
710H10=2X3 Allen key
1) Check the factory settings (chapter "Dynamic Trial Fitting" see Page 30).
2) Reduce the high factory setting for swing phase damping so that flexion damping is clearly
noticeable but still comfortable. This will make safe heel strike possible.
Now make adjustments to the prosthetic knee joint.
3) Information: Increasing stance phase damping of the prosthetic hip joint can result in stance
phase flexion of the prosthetic knee joint. In case of excessive stance phase damping of the
prosthetic hip joint, this can cause uncontrollable flexion of the prosthetic knee joint.
Gradually increase stance phase damping of the prosthetic hip joint and allow the patient to
get accustomed to the damping value. Adjusting stance phase damping should be done over
a longer period of time. With optimally adjusted damping, the prosthesis wearer will slowly
sink into the prosthetic hip joint in the stance phase and reach maximum extension of the
prosthetic hip joint just before initiating the swing phase.

5.6.4 Correcting Possible Problems

Troubleshooting with the 3R60=HD and 3R106 HD prosthetic knee joints
Observe the instructions for use of the chosen prosthetic knee joint for troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting for the 3C98-2 C-Leg and 3B1 Genium prosthetic knee joints
Basic troubleshooting information is provided below. Detailed information can be found in the
instructions for use for the respective knee joint.
If the chosen prosthetic knee joint does not go into extension during the stance phase after stance
phase flexion when the prosthetic hip joint is used, this can have several causes. Check the pos
sible causes and, if applicable, make the specified adjustments to achieve extension of the pros
thetic knee joint in the stance phase:
Swing phase damping (SW)
(see fig. 20)
High
The adjustment screw (SW) is
turned all the way to the right.
Stance phase damping (ST)
(see fig. 21)
Low
The adjustment screw (ST) is
turned all the way to the left.
