Before Initial Use

Before you can use the device, you must:
• unpack the items supplied,
• clean the device.

Unpacking the Items Supplied

CAUTION!
❐ Keep children and animals away from the packaging material. There is a danger of suffocation!
Unpack all parts and check the items supplied to make sure they are complete (see the "Device
Overview" chapter); also check for transport damage. If you find any damage to the compo-
nents, do not use them (!), but contact our customer service department (see the "Customer
Service" chapter).

Cleaning the Device

CAUTION!
❐ Before first using the device, also note the instructions provided in the "Use" chapter.
❐ Before you first clean it, also note the instructions in the "Cleaning" chapter.
❐ Do not use corrosive or abrasive cleaning agents to clean the device. These could damage
the surface.
Before you first use the device, we recommend that you let two to three full res-
ervoirs of water run through the coffee machine (without any coffee powder in the
filter) and the espresso machine (without any espresso powder in the portafilter).
Also allow one reservoir full of water to run through the steam nozzle before you
first froth up milk or heat up drinks using the steam nozzle.
1. Open the filter compartment by flipping up the water reservoir and filter compartment
cover.
2. Remove the coffee filter insert and the permanent filter. Clean the coffee filter insert, the
permanent filter and the glass pots with hot water and a little detergent if necessary.
3. Then dry the coffee filter insert, the permanent filter and the glass pots thoroughly.
4. Place the coffee filter insert and the permanent filter back into the coffee machine when
they are completely dry.

5. Remove the portafilter by turning the handle of the portafilter
to the left towards the open lock symbol.
