7.6. Cleaning the air filter

Never use petrol or solvents with a low flash point for cleaning the air filter element (risk of fire or explosion).
Important
Loosen the nuts (fig. D - no. 1) of the air filter cover (fig. D - no. 2) and remove it.
Remove the filter elements (fig. D - no. 3 & 4):
Foam element (fig. D - no. 4):
1)
Wash the element in a household cleaning solution & hot water, and then rinse it thoroughly.
OR: Wash it in a non-flammable or high flash point solvent. Allow the element to dry fully.
2)
Dip the element in clean engine oil and remove the excess oil.
Note: The engine will emit smoke when it is started for the first time if too much oil remains in the foam.
Paper element (fig. D - no. 3):
1)
Replace the paper element if it is too dirty.
Note: Never try to remove dirt using a brush or compressed air.
Check carefully that the two elements are not torn or pierced. Replace them if they are damaged.
Carry out refitting following the reverse procedure for removal.
7.7. Starter battery maintenance
Danger
As the battery is maintenance-free, just check the condition and tightness of the connections and its general cleanliness.

7.8. Spark plug inspection

The generating set is fitted with 2 spark plugs, which must be checked for proper working order.
Remove the spark plug cap (fig. E - no. 1), then the spark plugs (fig. A - no. 21 & fig. E - no. 2) using a spark plug wrench.
Check the washers, replace them if necessary.
Check the condition of the spark plugs:
If the electrodes are worn or if the insulator is cracked or flaking:
Replace the spark plugs.
Install the new spark plugs and tighten them by hand to avoid
cross-threading.
Using a spark plug wrench, tighten by a 1/2 turn after fitting
the spark plugs by hand to compress the washers.
Never place the battery close to a flame or fire
Use only insulated tools
Never use sulphuric acid or acid water to top up the electrolyte level.
Otherwise:
Clean the spark plugs with a metal brush.
With a shim, check the electrode gap "X": this must be
between 0.7mm and 0.8mm.
Fit the spark plugs back into place and tighten them by hand
to avoid cross-threading.
Using a spark plug wrench, tighten by a 1/8 - 1/4 turn after
fitting the plug by hand to compress the washers.
