DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM
Codes of breakdown
o
The module 01 eleelronic contrai contains Ihe sell-
diagnosis program, The modu le is equipped with a dia-
gnoslic auto-capacity which can find and insu late the
breakdowns 01 the EBC system,
When the breakdown is localized , the ECM emits an
identificalion code which rapresents the specific break-
down
o
There are 11 identilicalion codes thal can be
selected by the ECM; ali these codes provoke the
lighting 01 the lell tale !amp,
o
The ECM activates an automatic test during the star!-
ing phases and during the normal driving operations, Il
a breakdown is found during this tesI, The EBC doesn',
function , the ECM delermines the breakdown and the
tell tale lamp on Ihe dashboard lighls,

In order lo verity the breakdown cades act as lollows:
rolate ignilio n key, connecl the lerm in als 01 the cables
ORANGE and BLACK on the connector for Ihe diagno-
sis, Ihrough a switch:
the tell tale lamp on the dashboard will remain on
during about two seconds and then will begin lo flash
for the recognil ion of the breakdown code,
The code to

flashlngs and a final ona long_ eount the flashings
the flnal ona long inclusive: the resulting number
wlll eorrespond to the breakdown code_

rotating the key lo the positian OFF,

Il the ignition key is turned lo OFF belare the code
identification and the breakdown is of intermittenl nalu-
re, the code is
1 051;
Ihis is valid also lor the breakdowns
n. 5 and n,l. Il is therefore advisable lo take comple-
tely the breakdown identificalion codes before rotating
Ihe key lo the pos ition OFF.

In situalions where Ihe ECM points aut mo re breakdo-
wns, on ly the breakdown wilh Ihe lowest code number
will be notified (Ihe following breakdown will be pointed
aut by th e lell tale lamp when the firsl one will be
eliminated).

Breakdowns 01 intermittent nature
o
The mosl frequent problems are produced by bed ele-
cIrie connections, When a bre kdown 01 interm itlenl
nature eomes oul, check the ci rcuiI suspected 01 break-
down by following Ihis schema:

Co nneetor teminals ru sled or not correclly soldered lo
the conneclor body,
o
Damaged or delormed termi nals,
o
Electric wires ends no! correclly lolded in the termi-
nals; to carry oul this verificalion remove the terminals
from the conneclor,
o
Con neclions taken off, corroded or dirty ..
o
Water inlo the connector of the electronic modula,
REMARKS
o
Il is always necessary lo turn Ihe key lo the position
OFF atter every lime a breakdown code is checkad ,
o
Aftar any diagnosis and repair, carry out the vehicle
road lesI, check Iha corree! functioning of the EBC
syslem and that the tell tale lamp doesn'l remain on
alter the sell-diagnosis control.

When a breakdown has been identified, selecl the
pro per diagnosis as pointed out in the following pages,

Le module de contrale éleclronique contient le pro-
gramma d'autodiagnostic, Le module esi équipé d·une
aulo capacité diagnostiqua qui peul trouver et isoler les
pannes du système EBC ,
Lorsqu e une panne estlocalisée, f'ECM émet un code
d'identification qui représente la panne spécifique,

C lion nés par l'ECM , tous ces codes provoquent l'allu-
mage du l émoin,

L'ECM active un tesi automatiq ue pendant la phase
de démarrag e et pendant les normales opérations de
guidage. Si une panne est relevée pendanl ce tesI,
l'EBC cesse de fonclionner. rECM détermine la panne
relative en fa i sanI allumer la lampe témoin sur le
tableau de bord,
