After successful synchronization of
the slave application to the master
sign-of-life, the slave sign-of-life is
set to a value not equal to 0 and
incremented with each bus cycle.
Now synchronization of the master
application to the slave sign-of-life
can take place.

6.4.1.6 Cyclic operation
In cyclic operation the slave
application monitors the master
sign-of-life. If the sign-of-life does
not appear, the slave application
automatically attempts to
resynchronize itself. As long as the
master sign-of-life is present
without error, the slave sign-of-life
is incremented in each bus cycle
and can be monitored by the
master application.
