GSD file
The GSD file contains the device
master data for the product and is
filled in by the device
manufacturer. The GSD file can be
downloaded from the Balluff
homepage and contains the
technical features of the device.
This file is required for configuring.
I&M parameter
I&M stands for Identification &
Maintenance. This is a concept for
standard identification of field
devices irrespective of
manufacturer and industry.
Targeted access to online
information for startup and
maintenance purposes is possible
by reading the electronic part label
into an I&M-capable PC tool.
Ident Number
A 16-bits number assigned by the
PROFIBUS user organization
uniquely identifying a product. It
represents a reference to the GSD
file. In modular devices or devices
which casn be described in the
same GSD file can Ident Number
can be assigned for an entire
device family or series.
Master Class 1
Master which handles user data
communication.
Master Class 2
Master for control/startup and
configuration tasks.
Min_Slave_Interval
Time between 2 polling cycles in
master/slave communication. The
typical value used to be approx. 2
ms. In the meantime this has been
reduced to a few µs thanks to the
use of powerful ASICs. The
Min_Slave_Interval also makes it
possible for the user to control
time-intensive user processes.
PNO
PROFIBUS user organization.
SAP
Service Access Point for unique
identification of the send and
requested data within a telegram.
Each telegram contains a Source
SAP and a Destination SAP
(Exception: Data exchange takes
place using the default SAP).
TBit
Time unit for transmitting one bits
on the PROFIBUS (inverse of the
transmission rate, e.g.
12,000 kBit/s = 1/ bits/sec =
83 ns).
