There are two ways of creating a SAPI-S7 database:

You create a database with the "STEP 7" program (recommended).
Here, you can select the format in which you want to create the
database:
• LDB format or
• XDB format
Procedure: Please read the documentation shipped with STEP 7
(version 4.2 or higher).
4. Option
You create a database with the "COML S7" program. The format of
the database is "LDB".
Procedure: Start the "COML S7" program in the Simatic path

You can continue to use the databases created with COML S7
(LDB file) even if you are using the XDB configuration file at
the same time. It is, however, advisable to use only XDB
configuration files.
• Only one tool is necessary (STEP 7).
• In STEP 7, you configure all PCs and SIMATIC S7 stations in one
project.
• The bus parameters and the station address of the network adapter
on the PC are automatically set correctly.
• The required connection resources are checked automatically.
