6.14.1. Charging
Only use approved chargers to charge the batteries (type in accordance
with the technical data or as delivered by the Bischoff & Bischoff dealer
Fig. 44).
Please also follow the operating instructions for the charger!
Do not charge frozen batteries.
The batteries must be charged when the temperature is between 0° and
40°C.
When using the electric wheelchair for the very first time, we recommend
driving until just 3 bars are visible in the display (see Chapter 6.1) and
43.
recharge the batteries at that point.
In the event that this charge level is displayed, you should recharge the
batteries as soon as possible in order to avoid deep discharge.
Recharging requires approx. 12 - 16 hours.
When using the product after that, you can recharge the batteries at any
battery charge level.
You can interrupt the charging procedure even if the batteries are not
fully charged, if you need to continue driving, for example.
But where possible, always charge to 100% so that you have the greatest
range.
44.
Charging batteries:
First switch the electric wheelchair off.
Before you start using the charger, check that the power supply is
230 V.
Connect the charger with the charging socket of the electric
wheelchair and then with the power socket (230 V).
The charging socket is located on the side below the ignition switch
45.
(Fig. 45).
102
Use only by Bischoff & Bischoff approved battery
chargers to charge the batteries (see Technical
Data). Follow the instructions for use of the battery
charger (pic. 43).
Once the charging procedure is complete, unplug the mains plug and
disconnect the electric wheelchair from the charger.
When not in use, the battery should be charged once a month in
order to avoid deep discharge.
Deep discharge shortens the service life of the battery significantly, or
the battery may also be damaged by the deep discharge.
Batteries should be stored upright, in dry, frost-free conditions.
As soon as the range with fully-charged batteries starts to decrease
significantly, you should replace the batteries.
Never use your electric wheelchair with empty or
almost empty batteries. You may endanger yourself
and others by stopping unexpectedly.
6.14.2. Replacing batteries
When working on the batteries be very careful, do not use metal tools, do
not touch the battery terminals and follow the directions of the battery
manufacturer.
Caution! This work should only be done by a trained
technician. Danger of electrocution!
Use only batteries approved for this wheelchair (see technical data).
Make sure that the wheelchair is switched off before starting to replace
batteries.
First remove the battery cover (fig. 46).
First loosen the mounting and pull the battery tray out (fig. 47).
Disconnect the battery cable. First the red terminal and then the
black terminal. This does not require any tools.
