Xgard and Xgard IR
2.1 Hazardous Area use
Xgard is a range of detectors available in Exia (Intrinsically Safe) or Exd (Flameproof)
certified formats dependant on sensor type and customer preference. The certification
of each Xgard Type determines the category of hazardous area in which the product
may be installed and operated.
Refer to the certification label on the detector enclosure to identify the type of certifica-
tion for the product supplied.
Note: if the certification label is missing from the product or is defaced the detector must
not be used within a hazardous area. Certification labels are shown are shown on the
pages listed below.

3. Installation
WARNING
Installation must be in accordance with the recognized standards of the appropriate
authority in the country concerned. Ensure local regulations and site procedures are
followed during installation and use.

3.3 Location
Detectors should be mounted where the gas to be detected is most likely to be present.
The placement of detectors should be determined following the advice of experts having
specialist knowledge of gas properties and dispersion, the plant processing equipment
as well as safety and engineering issues. The agreement reached on the locations
