SERVICES AND YOUR DEALER

Vital components such as cables, spokes
and brakes get the chance to settle in
the running-in period. When you take
delivery of your bicycle, your Batavus
dealer may make appointments with
you regarding services, checks and
adjustment. Alternatively you can call
in his help yourself (15). He will, of
course also provide assistance in the
event of breakdowns, doubts, strange
10
noises or obstinate faults so that he can
detect and correct any shortcomings at
an early stage.
However, to be able to continue
enjoying cycling, and cycling safely,
professional maintenance is neces-
sary, including an annual service. Your
dealer not only has the tools and the
experience to adjust and grease hid-
den rotating components such as the
Aheadset, freewheel and hubs, but his
expertise also enables him to recognize
small imperfections in good time. For
example, before the winter sets in or
before a touring holiday. Maintenance
and adjustment of the bicycle depend
on the use and weight of the cyclist.
Good maintenance is also extremely
important as regards the guarantee,
because it can lapse if your bicycle is
not maintained in accordance with the
guidelines stipulated in this booklet or
is not maintained by a competent pro-
fessional. For professional maintenance
it is often necessary to consult your
Batavus dealer. If you are in any doubt,
contact him. Please read the provisions
of the guarantee carefully, too; these
can be found later in this booklet.

TOOLS

A simple set of tools is suffi cient for
small jobs.
You can do most of them with the aid
(15)
of a set of open-end or socket span-
ners, hexagonal keys, a screwdriver, a
pair of combination pliers, a bottle of
bicycle oil and, of course, a puncture
repair kit.
We recommend the use of original
components when replacing parts or
having them replaced. This is so that
the bicycle will function optimally and
because, in some cases, your guarantee
may lapse otherwise. Ask your Batavus
dealer for advice.

CLEANING

First remove the dirt with a brush. A
spiral brush can be really useful in re-
aching spots which are diffi cult to get
at. Subsequently go to work with hot
water mixed with a mild liquid soap
(i.e. no strong chemical agents such as
bleach, ammonia or soda) and a soft
cotton cloth. Because bearing-moun-
ted turning points are water repellent
but not waterproof, it is wise to avoid
using a garden hose or high-pressure
sprayer.
We recommend that you grease the
aluminium, chrome and steel compo-
nents on your bicycle with acid-free
vaseline or special grease to prevent
oxidation.

THE CHECKLIST

After a fall it is very important that
your bicycle is carefully examined for
damage and defects even if no da-
